Default M50 Non Vanos Swap into Ti Build

thes8nmidget13 suggested I post my build thread here. I have a mirror thread on another forum but there may be more ti fans here that would be interested in it.

Well, some of the locals around my city, Winnipeg, know about Chantale's 318ti"m", or Tim as she likes to refer to it. See picture below. Often criticized for it's "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" mods, Tim is about to have the last laugh.

Well, Tim has a congenital heart defect known as M42. As a result, Tim is going in for a transplant. Below is a picture of Tim's new donor heart.

The surgery will be performed by niks325i and thectrlguy .

Well. Chantale's car is in my garage beside the Calypso Rot donor car. Took a couple before pics of the engine bay.

Up, up!

Good job, Mark.

and away!

I know it looks easy, but it was rather challenging. These cars have a ton of wires, hoses, and other things that need to be disconnected and referenced for the installation. Task now is to clean everything and then pull the little 4 banger out of the ti.

They could be for sale. They belong to a friend of mine though. I am just using them to hold that car up since I sold the wheels and tires that came with it.

Well. We spent a couple more working on the swap. Been fun. Some learning, some cursing. Pulled the M42 out of Tim.

Today was cleanup detail. Spent most of the day just cleaning and detailing stuff. Pushed Tim into the alley and worked on the engine compartmet. Gave the rest of him a bath while we were at it.

This is Where the magic happens. That's our new company slogan.

Cleaned up M50 looking for a home. Changed the transmission oil to Amsoil ATF while it was hanging like this. Made for an easy change.

Out with the old, and in with the new. Had to pull the rear exhaust header off since the studs on the flange snapped off. Going to have to get the old ones drilled out and some new ones put in. If it weren't for that, we might've bolted in the M50 today.

Waiting for the next step.

What's next? Get that manifold drilled out. Sort out a few small items. Drop this baby in. Might happen Sunday.

Well, we did a bunch of work yesterday on Tim. I think the following pictures will speak for themselves.

Mark was able to get the broken studs pulled out of the manifold at a machine shop he deals with. The engine is bolted in, transmission is bolted in, driveshaft is hooked up. Now it's the electrical and cooling system. Probably work on that tonight.

Well, last night we had a chance to spend some more time on Tim. Worked a fair bit on swapping the harness. This includes the 402 ECU. Pictured below.

I ordered a Dinan chip for it too.
