Trying to find a serial number range,

Mine is: wbacg5328sam53599

I saw someone else was selling theirs and it was: wbacg5321sam53492

So only 107 different. And a 5321 instead of a 5328, different option?

Anyway, Car and Driver said only 200 were made. Was just trying to find some evidence to back it up.

Thanks,

Eric

I just did a search on google and came back with these.
WBACG5328SAM53618
WBACG5328SAM53621
WBACG5327SAM53593

those 5 are within 129 of each other, if there are only 200, that is 2.5% of them. So it seems like the range for the club sport serial numbers is between roughly 53450 and 53650.

My club sport was made in 10/1995, which by US standards would technically make it a 96. Car and Driver stated they released it just before the close of the year. The title on my car still says 1995, I imagine BMW goes by a fiscal year that starts Jan 1st. Anyway, when were your club sports made? I think think most were made late in the year.

For the CS, CandD lists the performance as:
$25,850
138hp@6000
129lb-ft@4500
2840 lb
0-60: 8.5 sec
0-100: 28.2 sec
1/4: 16.5@82
116 MPH (govener limited)
braking 70-0: 166 ft
300 ft skid: 0.85 g
observed mpg: 25

Not bad. They loved the car. They said that there are many faster cars, but this one makes you feel like a pro at more sensible speeds. They loved how it drove, and said it was definitely worth the $3000 premium. What impresses me is that braking, 166 ft from 70 is fast for any car.

Let's see if we can't get a few more numbers and figure this out.

Mine is WBACG5328SAM53540

OK, so we have:

WBACG532xSAM53yyy

And for x we have values of, 1, 5, 7 or 8 so far,
and for yyy we have 492, 540, 544, 593, 599, 618, 621 and a "mine is in there also"
So the mean value is 572 with a standard deviation of 48 with
This is saying about 2% will have a value of less than 472, or about 2% will have a value of more than 672. Assuming we have a normal distribution of samples. That is reasonable considering C&D stated that there were 200 made.
95% confident the mean is within the range of 537 to 608.

I would put a range of about WBACG532xSAM53472 to 53672 give or take a few in either direction.

Just reading thru some old stuff on here. Wondering if anyone has done a more comprehensive study on the Club Sport. My VIN ends is 53646. So it could be one of the last ones?

I don't think anyone else has looked into it, but yours is definitely one of the later units. It also helps support the given data. That gives 492, 540, 544, 593, 599, 618, 621, and 646 so the new mean is 582. That puts the 492 as one of the first units made and the 646 as one of the later units made. The standard deviation is now 52. Looking at the normal distribution and calculating the cumulative distribution number 646 would have 10% of the club sports numbered higher and 90% numbered less. The range now looks like it is 482 to 682 (but this could change with new numbers discovered. The statistics still point to about 200 being made (but less than 300). We are also 99% confident that the mean is in the range of 582 +/- 50 (edit, misinterpreted my statistics)

I notice the spread is now 203, the low number being 492 and the high number being 695. Either they didn't use all the numbers in the range, or they did make more than 200. Interesting.

I found another on google, 562.

It looks for sure that the range is 200, but no more than 300 club sports made.

Default (Naively): What separates a CS from the rest of us?

I really am not 100% sure, but isn't it just M-tech bumper covers/moldings/wheels and interior (maybe springs) which sets the CS apart from the rest of our Ti's?

Or did I just describe the Sport Package and not the CS?
