The weight added makes sense for short shifts. Also, I thing this part is buried so deep it doesn't matter what it looks like. I just like my mods to be good, so I pay extra special attention so when I do a 2-3 shift, the selector rod doesn't rust intp 2 pieces. Actually, I bought the selector rod form the
M3 used. It looked soo much better than mine. no rust... yellow chromate coating visible. I just felt mine looked aweful by comparison. So I cleaned my original one upwhen I decided to re-install it. Anyway, I'll let you know how it fits.

well it fit like a glove.
The shifter lever is back where I like it, and the throw feels really good.
I hope this thread helps others who are doing a short shift conversion.
I got the idea for the ssk here:

and the wsr here:

I like this mod a lot.

to bring this thread back to life...

what about for you swapped Tis? after i did the swap i noticed that my shifter wasn't dead center anymore. an Z3 shifter was installed before i did the swap 2 years ago so my selector rod was already bent. i have lived with it for the past 2 years but now that i am replacing all of the bushings etc, i want to fix the problem. what have you swapped tis done? mind you the M52 has moved my tranny back about .5" - 1.0". would using an M3 selector rod help solve the problem?
