Default Name this part!?

Ok guys. My car started overheating the other day. I popped the hood and found the problem, water was squirting out of a small crack in the elbow of this tube/part. I don't know what part it is. Any of you guys know what it is and maybe the best way to replace it?

The diagrams do help but the part is not listed. The part is the one right below number 7 hose clamp.

I believe that you can get at this plastic water pipe to replace it by removing the alternator and the oil filter housing. Some say that suggest removing the intake manifold, but I would try the first method. Good luck.

If you remove the alternator it is possible to replace it but its much easier with the intake out of the way. I would suggest replacing all the hoses that connect to it as well since I'm guessing they're all original as well.

I just replaced this part yesterday on my ti. I removed the intake manifold, since i also replaced all the hoses as well. Keep in mind that there's also another coolant connector on the back of the block that breaks as well. If you decide to remove the intake manifold, it would be best to replace that part too (and hoses) All the pics are in the DIY:

Thank you for the picture. I've already managed to pull everything apart and am now waiting on new parts to come in. Do you happen to know which sensor is just above the connector in the side of the block? You can see it pretty clearly in your picture.

That's the coolant temp sensor. On an M44 its just the one sensor for the DME and the gauge, on the M42 there's a blue one there for the DME and a black one by cylinder 3 for the gauge. The two wired sensors in the pic are the two knock sensors.

It is critical to order a Genuine BMW replacement part for this application- not an aftermarket part!
