Huh?

I'd much rather have an oil gauge in place of the MPG gauge personally. I've done so many mileage calculations (trip odometer / gallons to refill = MPG), that I can estimate the mileage pretty closely. You just get used to the position of the fuel gauge vs. the miles driven per tank. Also, I often fill up close to 10 gallons, so the mental math is simple.

I once looked into fooling the fuel consumption gauge into reading out oil pressure. I thought you might be able to do that by monitoring the engine rpm and road speed signals and then feeding the cluster an appropriate, synthetic injection time. I couldn't figure out a nice way to keep the gauge from going to zero when you stopped, however.

Whether you use Super, premium, or regular does not directly affect fuel mileage. In fact, typically, if you are using a fuel that your car is not tuned to run on, you will get worse results.

My best so far was 440 miles on a tank.

Even when I drive "spiritedly" I can get 375 easy out of a tank.

I think someone needs a tuneup or something.

hummm fool the octane level is in fact directly linked to the milage..all u gotta do is spend 5 sec thinking about how an engine works and then u'll realise it does!! Or just log onto a petrol website and read about it......
As for the tune up my cars fully bm serviced from day 1..how odd!! Gonna have to look into that thats quite annoying not to mention expensive when im paying close to or over £1 a litre.....

I hit about 400 +/- 25 per tank too. Octane is measured differently in the USA and the rest of the world. Octane numbers are lower here for the same "real octane" quantity of gas. ie. 93 octane in the US is about 98-99 octane in the UK. Anyways, Higher octane means less BTU's which means in theory less mileage.

Are you using an OBC to measure this, or just filling up and calculating?

After every fill up, I reset the trip odometer. When I fill up, I look and see how far I drove.

As far as calculating mileage, when i fillup, I use how many gallons it took/trip odometer reading. it's not 100% accurate because I never get the tank filled to exactly the previous starting point but it is damn close.

I gotta use the trip odometer for something!

iv never bothered to actually work mine out accurately im just going by how many miles i get when i refill tank and reset the odometer...if i use standard fuel (97 octane) i get about 100 to 150 less miles per tank than super (98-99)..

i find 97 gives me a better yield than 95

but 95 and 92 actually work out the same

combustion/ burn efficience on higher octane fuels directly relates to performance outputs. its proven

at least it aint just me than!! Sorry to say but i think 400-450 is wishfull thinking or someones reading the wrong gauge!! That many miles from a tank is getting close to my diesel mpg..i know the rds, hills, style of driving all make a difference but not THAT much!!

oakley; what's the full (including reserve) tank capacity for the UK/EU ti? It may differ from the version we get.

To get a better estimate of gas mileage, read your odometer and calculate that against the fuel you've just added, rather than what you think you've burned based on the needle position. Gets more accurate when you use the same pump.
