Default Why doesn't the 318ti have a MPG meter?

Just curious really, why didn't the TI come with a MPG gauge in the area where RPM and MPH are calculated? And did this affect every model or just the base ones?

Thanks!!!

It does-- for the Active package's OBC. It's the third option.

I think some of the older ones had mpg below RPM.

The little swing arm one that is below the RPM gauge on other E36 cars is useless... They should have put the oil pressure gauge like the euro cars have, that would be useful information.

If your ti has an OBC then you have it,i don't think the 95-96 models had it nor do the sport models.

Why is it useless? I think it is great since you can do a rough caculation of how much gas you have left to plan your gas stops..

So, if the 318ti or any BMW has a OBC (Even the more simpler one? minusing of course the 95-96 and apprantly the sport model) it will be there automatically?

Plain and simple if you have an OBC you have it.

I agree. I have one wired in my cluster. The only use for it is so my driving school instructors can see if I'm on the gas.

You have a gas gauge for that.
Funny that the US market gets MPG and Europeans get oil pressure.
Shows you what is important to Americans.

If you have an OBC you have a range calculator already... The gauge under the RPM moves around way to much. It gives you the MPG based on what you are doing at that exact moment.. It in no way can be used to calculate your range or average MPG.

The MPG and range in the OBC is much better as it is rolling average and momentary spikes in acceleration or stopping/starting at red lights does not affect it as long as it has not been reset recently.

The irony is that gasoline is significantly cheaper here so you'd think that we would be less concerned with MPG.

Most Americans are merely lemmings and will follow the instructions of whatever marketing that they're exposed to.

Btw, Z3Ms don't have a gauge in the cluster for MPG, and Z3 do not either IIRC...also the 323ti doesn't have a economy gauge(MPG gauge), had to check up on these to be sure.

Only the Euro M has the Oil Gauge in it, other e36s have the MPG gauge.

I get about 400-450 miles per tank on the highway. That's the only place I worry about running out of fuel. Never once have I actually done it, but I've had it running on low so long that the bulb burned out.

Around town, I bring it back to full when I hit 1/2 or 1/4 tank. This is especially worthwhile in winter, since it keeps the condensation down.

It doesn't need park distance control, and hates decadence. It is musclepacked, yet lightly wound. It lets you feel the asphalt and get you going with the smallest touch of the pedal. It provokes, seduces, and demands to be driven hard. It looks, sounds, and smells like performance.

It was standard in the active, available as an option in the base and sport.

There is no euro E36 with oil pressure gauge, except the M3s. The rest of the E36s have the instant fuel consumption gauge.
