I dropped them off at the powder coater a while back, but they had to special order the color. Originally I was looking for a set of BBS RS's or RM's, but I couldn't find a set that fit my criteria. Most people who run OEM e39 wheels on e36's run 215/40/17 semi-stretched tires with rolled fenders to compensate for the low offset. Since I'm doing an e30 M3 widebody fab on my Ti, I'm looking for even lower offsets. I don't want stretched tires, since I'm gonna need all the traction I could get, so I'm running 235/40/17's which IMO is still a little narrow to my liking, but the style 5's are only 17x8". I'll probably run 20mm spacers in the rear, dropping the offset to et0 and 10mm spacers in the front, making them et10. I won't know for sure what size spacers I'll get until after the fenders are finished. Those LM's are pretty slick though, they're getting harder to find these days. But personally, I think stepped lip RS's are where it's at. Wish I could've found a set before I commited to the style 5's. | | | 03-05-2009, 05:58 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | If anyone else is looking for a clean set of Style 5's, here you go; http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1186651 __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I'm probably going to get another set and have those done in black. The gold that they had was more of a brownish/darker gold. I'm glad that I caught it before they actually sprayed them. I went there early in the moning on the day that i was supposed to pick them up and they showed me the color on a piece of metal right before they were getting ready to spray my centers. I didn't like it and asked to choose another color. The gold that I picked out was a lighter/brighter gold with only 30% gloss. So they ordered it and I'm supposed to pick them up on Wednesday. I asked them if they could match the color to my center caps, but they couldn't so I'm going to have paint specially mixed to match the powdercoating. One of my barrels has quite a bit of curb rash, so I'm in the process of adding material to it, then I'll file it down and sand it smooth prior to polishing them. It's a very delicate process, I have to heat up the lip enough to melt the aluminum rod, but not the lip. The only other way to do it is to file the curb rash completely off, but then you're compromising the integrity of the rim if you remove too much material. So the better option is to just add material. Today I'm ordering 16 more gold bolts and BBS center caps. | | | 03-05-2009, 11:10 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Nice! I'm glad you went with the lighter gold as well, it will look very good on your car. Also, FYI on the original link, those are RXIIs not LMs. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
