Default how much should I be expecting for an engine swap?

Hey everyone, my engine went a few weeks after buying my ti and now i have to get a new one swapped in. I live in ottawa, Ontario and I have had prices from 500-1200 for an engine swap. My question is, how much should it really cost, and should i avoid cheap work? I dont want my new (used) engine to blow from a cheap job done on my car, but unfortunately I am VERY strapped for cash. any advice with this situation would be very appreciated thanks.

does it include the wiring, computer and keys for the $800? it's hard to do an engine swap when you have to source those parts separately, are you doing the swap yourself or paying a shop to do it?

Im not sure if it includes that I was going to drive there this saterday to take a look at it and ask more questions but the guy at the yard bluntly said "no we dont do scenics" that made me very suspicous. he claimed nobody is allowed in the yard for insurance reasons but if i am spending 800 dollars on an engine then i think it is pretty reasonable to want to see it before i buy it. that was a big dissapointment because im having a hard time finding an engine. what do you think about that? and no i am not doing the swap myself I dont posess the knowledge so I am looking for a garage that will do it, but again my funds are limited and i dont have much to spend.

Its going to get expensive since your in Canada, then shop costs, and time down. If theyre not willing for you to see the engine, dont bother with it. Id go to a shop that will let me see it, hear it run, and have compression and leakdown results with it. Granted, a warranty is great, but paying someone for their labor and having it fail within or after the warranty is not cool on your wallet. Get results or move on.
