I'm trying to decide what I'm going to do about more power. Should I M3 swap it? or build the M42 and turbo it? If I M3 swap I really want to find an S50, but it seems there are hardly any around. I could probably settle for an S52 and I could probably build it to be just like an S50. Let me know what you think and please give me suggestions or tips. Any help in general would be appreciated. Thank you. | | | 04-04-2012, 06:11 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | price wise a m3 swap is cheaper but i like to be different so i got a build motor turbo lol but its not cheap at all so cheap and reliable then go with the m3 swap, many people have done it before __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 04-05-2012, 09:39 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: Florida Posts: 404 | I definitely want to do the engine swap. Only problem now is trying to find one. I would prefer the 3.2 liter s50, but just the 3,0 s50 would do and if it comes down to it I'll just get the s52 haha. | | | 04-05-2012, 10:31 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | definitely go for the swap __________________ 1999 BMW 318ti 2005 MINI Cooper S | | | 04-06-2012, 01:25 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | I was going to suggest the 3.0, M52, I think. Two hundred twenty horses, cheaper and less trouble than an M engine. | | | 04-06-2012, 02:05 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: Florida Posts: 404 | I'll look into my options. I'd just really like to have an almost 300hp n/a engine. Do the M engines have problems? | | | 04-06-2012, 02:32 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | M engines really don't have issues, they are just bored out M50's and M52's with more aggressive cams. The only known issue is the oil pump nut coming lose when it is getting pushed hard. Before you drop the engine in, you can lock tite it, use safety wire, or tack weld. they are great engines if you keep up with the necessary maintenance __________________ Im guessing im the youngest member on here with a S52 power'ed Ti at 16 years old! | | | 04-06-2012, 03:15 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2010 Location: Scranton/Wilkes-barre area PA Posts: 454 | I thought the S52 was the 3.2 and the s50 was the 3.0? Why is it that you are searching for the s50 specifically? __________________ ***Derek*** ^^Lola^^ Pioneer radio/ Pioneer 6-Disk CD Changer/ JBL 601.1 Grand Touring Amplifier/ Bilstein Sport shocks/ Bilstein e36sedan springs/ Green LED Courtesy Lights Accident Counter: 3... | | | 04-06-2012, 03:55 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | European S50 was a 3.2L that makes ~320hp, the S50B32. The US got the S50B30 with 240hp. The euro engines are $$$$$. OP, you should do both. Just make sure to swap and then turbo. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 04-06-2012, 04:58 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: Florida Posts: 404 | Hahaha. So any help on where I could find an S50? | | | 04-06-2012, 05:13 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Easiest is to find a M3 wrecked and buy the whole car, then sell off the remainder when your done. That way you get all the harness, EWS, Seats, maybe wheels... Is there an cost effective alternative to turbo a Ti engine as is without completely getting rid of it? | | | 04-06-2012, 06:49 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | Quote: Originally Posted by B-moreBimmer318ti Newbie here..but im just curious as to how much and M engine swap would cost to go for the turbo.
