Is it the hollow tubular adjustable bar? Have you done any research on that bar, I'm curious where it falls in the stiffness category. I was playing with tire pressures this past weekend and I was able to get the car really hooked up on turn in, but at apex I had the front passenger side wheel way up in the air. So I'm thinking that my front bar is still way to stiff, even after softening it up to it's softest setting. Looking at the GC bar, or the UUC 25.4mm bar. | | | 05-08-2009, 03:34 PM | #47 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Scandia, MN Posts: 215 | It's the GC extra stiff E36 M bar, hollow tubular. I started off with it set to nearly full soft (sliders 12mm in from aft) and the car is almost completely neutral. Luck guess. I'm sure I'll be getting some massive wheel lift and be back to square one once on a surface with more grip than the busted up 30-year old parking lot we were on last weekend. __________________ S50, Sunbelt cams, Dr.Vanos, blah, blah, blah... | | | 05-08-2009, 03:41 PM | #48 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Scandia, MN Posts: 215 | BTW, Nitto NT-01/Toyo 888 tires in the 235/40-17 sizes are a great match for these cars... light, no sidewall flex, awesome wear characteristics... anybody that's on the fence about what to buy for a do-it-all track/ax tire NEEDS to consider these. __________________ S50, Sunbelt cams, Dr.Vanos, blah, blah, blah... | | | 05-13-2009, 06:36 PM | #49 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | What pressures have you found work best for your car with the r888? I've seen recommendations from 46psi all the way down to 32-34psi. The latest fasttrack has an article where they say 32-33 is about right for a spec miata. My car weighs more than that, so I think I may try 34-36 hot this weekend. | | | 05-14-2009, 10:10 PM | #50 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Scandia, MN Posts: 215 | 37-38 hot (front), 35-36 hot (rear) I found works best for me... __________________ S50, Sunbelt cams, Dr.Vanos, blah, blah, blah... | | | 06-15-2009, 11:01 PM | #51 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Detroit, MI Posts: 585 | Got back from HPT this weekend. I'm planning to lose another 45lbs or so before NASA Nationals - time for some Lexan. Interesting thread, it looks like we have a lot of the same changes. I should post some pics and updates as well... __________________ Andy Chittum - Mad Man Motorsports | | | 08-21-2009, 03:34 AM | #55 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | You've got a full cage and the straight six so that weight difference seems spot on. I've been thinking that if I decide to compete in NASA TTE I will go back to 15inch lightweight rims, well under 15 pounds, along with going back to the stock non-vented rotors with some massive cooling improvements. I also still can do a LTW flywheel without taking any points and that should really help the M42. The other option is a 2.8 swap and competing in TTD. TTD seems like a swapped Ti could be more competitive than TTE with the miata's. I have major fuel starvation issues under half a tank, so if I don't get the dual fuel pump setup I know I will never be lighter than the car is right now. I basically lost about 100 pounds by getting a lightweight battery, losing the AC system, and completely gutting the alarm, horns, glovebox, and airbag "braces." I still have the interior components of the AC system in the car, and full electric windows. I could get the car a lot lighter, but then I would have to start ballasting it back up to stay in the classes that I'm thinking about competing in. | | | 09-25-2009, 05:41 PM | #56 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Novi, MI Posts: 115 | I weighed my 96 base model ti today at a junk yard scale. 2680 lbs with 3/4 tank of gas. I removed the spare tire and related tools, floor mats, glove box stuff, but kept the hub caps on the stock steelies. 185/65/15 el cheapo tires. The car does not have a sunroof. I'll weigh again when I have a GC coil over setup and the 16x7 sport style rims I bought. Last edited by osu_ti; 09-25-2009 at 05:45 PM. I also weighed the car today with the stock M42 motor; Front wheels only on the scale: 1460 lbs Rear wheels only on the scale: 1300 lbs whole car on the scale: 2780 lbs (I account for the 20 extra lbs from stock weight due to the heavier Vader seats...) __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Tire Rack's MT1R in 17x9 et 40. Tipped the scales at 16.2lbs...5lbs a piece lighter than the 17x8 Team Dynamics that they replace. I ditched my p.o.s. exhaust system with some ebay long tubes and a custom 3" pipe back to a magnaflow. Saved about 15lbs with all that. Still looking for more weight to shed, but I think it's gonna be spendy to find it... *cough* carbon hood *cough* __________________ S50, Sunbelt cams, Dr.Vanos, blah, blah, blah... | | | 10-08-2010, 04:18 AM | #59 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2009 Location: TN Posts: 216 | Quote: Originally Posted by Dan I I finally got around to getting some light weight wheels for a street or mild r-comp tire.
