Must have blue read out to match all instruments in my car... Thanks for any help | | | 08-05-2009, 04:38 PM | #333 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | I have a feeling it's just the turbo. It is a cheap DSM-EVOIII If it were ball bearing it would most likely spool to 25psi quick and that is were the waste gate would open. I'm thinking the pressure at the wastegate is at 25psi and so it opens but the non ball bearing turbo takes those extra seconds to finally spool to 25psi... Just a thought | | | 08-05-2009, 05:10 PM | #334 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | test the theory with a second boot gauge __________________ -Jeff | | | 08-05-2009, 05:11 PM | #335 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: MA Posts: 163 | can you temporarily force the wastegate closed by putting something solid in place, to see how high the boost goes? That will let you know if its the turbo or the wastegate | | | 08-05-2009, 06:11 PM | #336 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by Danny318 can you temporarily force the wastegate closed by putting something solid in place, to see how high the boost goes? That will let you know if its the turbo or the wastegate | I can but I'm not going too. Just to get to the wastegate I have to remove A/C lines, Turbo oiling system and oil cooler, coil packs and ignition wiring. It's burried and a total Birch to get on the v-band with two people...1 on top pushing it down with all their might and me under the car trying to get the v-band around both lips in a mess of exhaust heat wrap...I f'en itched for 2 days after that bs and I'm not taking the A/C apart again unless the motor comes out for a Garrett GT30R BB water cooled turbo. I had to end up taping the A/C compressor suction line bolt since there was no room for the nut under the bolt trick. I'm going to crank down the manual top adjustment on the wastegate all the way down and really pre-load the springs to see what happens. Currently pulling a vacuum on the A/C for the 4th time getting ready to charge it...Hope it's the last time | | | 08-06-2009, 02:50 AM | #337 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Odenton, MD Posts: 419 | Build a boost leak tester and slowly pressurize the system to see when it cracks open. | | | 08-06-2009, 05:11 AM | #338 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | i was gonna say the same, check for any boost leaks, i bet that's the problem (had the same problem on my srt-4) boosting 15psi in 1st, 2nd gear and 25psi in 3th, boost leak and then messing around with the nut on the wastegate for the spring load __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 08-06-2009, 11:49 AM | #339 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Here is the new Aluminum throttle body intake hose. After I tapped and fixed the stripped compressor the suction hose started leaking from all the on off and flexing. Looked up the price and said no way. Cut off the factory clamp and double hose clamped it. Pulled a 30hg and charged it. Not any leaks. Yah I finally have air.... | | | 08-06-2009, 04:28 PM | #342 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Interesting drive to work on the highway. First a older Mustang 5.0 flowmaster exhaust goes for it. I totally spank his butt, then a 328i is on me so I slow dow to about 55 and let him get beside me and give him the jump. Totally blow his doors off but bang loud pop and I knew a intercooler hose let go. Pull off the nearest exit and it's the drivers elbow on the intercooler. I get under the car and clamp it back on nice and tight. Yea I'm back onthe road with good boost. Visit my property and stay for 1 hr. Heading home on Highway again. 350Z goes for it. I give him the jump and blow his doors off and pop damn no boost. Got home and this time it's the hose leading to the intercooler. I have 25psi in 1st now so I guess the TB boot was leaking real bad. Now I've got to go through all intercooling and tighten all clamps. Each ride I blow a hose off it's pipe and have to pull over and fix it. When I get video you guy are going to $hit. My car is nasty fast now, I wish each of could go for a ride to feel how hard that turbo hits...I'm sure it excellerates faster then it will stop which is a bad combo | | | 08-06-2009, 04:40 PM | #343 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Wow... you should just weld custom 90 degree aluminum connectors on instead. With boost that high, you're going to have issues unless you use a stronger retention system.
