If it's too complex or I have no time, I'll just take it to an independent mechanic (Sam's Automotive- specialty in BMW's). | | | 07-30-2006, 06:18 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: çî˙ řf ĺNgëL§, CA Posts: 5,314 | my Dad fixes my car. | | | 07-30-2006, 06:59 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Weymouth, MA Posts: 215 | I usually repair everything by myself. I have a friend independent mechanic, who owns a repair shop. He allows me to use his equipment. BMW it's a car like any other. It's not too hard to fix it when you have the right tools. I use the BMW dealership just to get some parts that are not available anywhere else. In the beginning of the summer I decided to fix my dead A/C. I found that one of the A/C line was leaking. BMW dealership asked me for $145 which is kinda expensive. So I went to the closest junk yard and got the same pipe line from BMW 325i, the price $5 . So I kinda saved like $140 which is good. If anybody has problem with the auxilary cooling fan low speed, let me know. I have a solution, which works %100 for the price of about $20 | | | 07-30-2006, 04:06 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | other than when i took my car to get the dinan chip at the dealer, i havent been to the dealer in about 2 years or so...ive taken my car to europenan performance twice in the last few years that i can remember...knock sensors, and alignment...i go there to pick up oil filters and parts that not every place has (IE: rear shcok mounts and such) __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 07-30-2006, 04:19 PM | #10 | doesn't care about you. I do take it in to have alignments done and wheel balancing, since I don't own a laser aligment tool or a balancer. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 08-01-2006, 02:51 PM | #11 | Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: FT LUADERDALE, FL Posts: 91 | i started doing all the work on the car myself after the warranty ran out, and it has saved me a bundle, plus its like having a girlfriend the deeper you get involved the more you know her. __________________ Specs: M-Technic Front/Rear, M3 Side Skirts & Mirrors, MS Roof Wing, Euro Tail Lights, Projector Signals, ADR M Sport 18x8.5, H&R Sport Springs, Bilstien Sport Shocks, E46 M3 Rear Shock Mounts, M Roadster Rear Shock Mount Plates, Momo Shift Knob, Bavauto 8mm Perf Wires, K&N Cone Filter, Stainless Steel Brake Lines, Cross Drilled Rotors, 20 Piece Carbon Fiber Dash Kit, NR White Guage Face, X-Brace, BMP Strut Tower Brace, UUC stage 2 flywheel, and SS clutch line | | | 08-01-2006, 02:58 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 1,595 | If it's something minor or a simple mod, I do my own work. If the car has a major problem or need it to go on the lift I take it to my mechanic: BimmerPlace in Orlando or GermanCars of Sarasota pending where I am at the time. | | | 08-01-2006, 04:29 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | On the Ti I do most of the repairs myself. I do however usually have it inspected by The Bimmerplace in orlando if it is due for an inspection 1 or 2. Josh is usually much better at spotting things that may cause me trouble before I spot them. The only time I go to the dealer is for my 1 car that is still under warranty. Other than that I refuse to go to the dealer for service. | | | 08-05-2006, 11:55 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: LA & Colo Spgs Posts: 210 | Do the little stuff yourself, but I've found that a good independent mechanic is worth his (her) weight in gold. | | | 08-06-2006, 01:38 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | I do my own work....occasion trip to the dealership for comfirmations, but all work is done myself. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
