Default Another crank, no start issue..

Hopefully someone can help me out and see if I missed anything.

History: Car had numerous oil leaks all around the engine. Pretty much everything was taken off the engine, cleaned, and replaced/reinstalled. New knock sensors were installed. ASC was deleted, but ASC throttle body TPS and cable motor are attached.

Problem: Car will crank, but not start.

Troubleshooting: Battery is in good condition. Starter obviously works. The DME relay is operational and upon activation supplies power to fuel pump relay. Fuel pump relay itself works, fuel pump works (bypassed relay), but the relay is not being activated by DME. Tried to start car while bypassing fuel pump relay - no good. Crank position sensor tested good (560ohms). Cam position sensor untested, but car ran fine before. I checked spark on #1 cylinder - it is present.

Things not tested: Injector signal, cam position sensor. Assuming coil pack is good - Spark plugs are new.

I am getting an ADS cable in tomorrow to see if the EWS/DME went out of sync. Maybe the DME is trashed - in which case I'd need a new one and sync the EWS to it...

Anybody?

Got mine solved - ended up being the d@mn cam sensor!

Having the same issue with my '96 ti... when I turn the key into the 2nd position I cannot hear the fuel pump prime, but I replaced the relay and it is working. And if I'm correct the DME controls the fuel pump relay and if it isn't receiving signal from all systems it won't send power to the pump. Now im chasing what could not be sending a signal.

There are more things than that going on. Check for spark - if you are receiving spark, then it is NOT a EWS issue. If you have no spark, then its EWS. In rare cases I have read that the DME can loose the EWS key which is an easy fix if you have the cables and software. I ended up getting the cables and software, along with INPA and it's been a blessing as I was able to confirm the fuel pump will turn on via DME and pulse all injectors. It's possible you have a cam or crank position sensor issue.

Check the wiring diagrams as well. Sitting beside the fuel pump relay is the DME relay. It will provide signal power to the relay (the DME provides ground). Power is always on if I remember right.

One thing you can try is to bypass the fuel pump relay with a jumper to turn on the fuel pump and then try to start the car. This will confirm two things - 1) the fuel pump is definitely receiving power at the pump, and 2) if it starts, you have a problem within the fuel pump circuit.

Thanks for the repsonse. I’ve bypassed the fuel pump relay and put power directly to the fuel pump to test and the car did start. So I believe it is in the wiring somewhere as I have changed the cam sensor and both DME and fuel pump relays. Still doesn’t make sense of the check engine light though. I’ve scanned it and nothing has come up so i’m thinking the ECU just needs a hard reset.

So, do you have a CEL or not?

Double check the DME relay that sits beside the fuel pump relay, then check the wiring diagrams. If you don't have experience with reading schematics and electrical troubleshooting, I can try to help.

I do have a CEL, but I don’t know what clould be sending it. I changed the DME relay but I will go through the fuel pump wiring diagram later on today.

Do you know what the code is? It may not be the fuel pump wiring.

Nope, put 2 scanners on it and none of them are pulling a code. I think it may have been from the cam sensor before I changed it and now that i’ve changed it, it hasn’t reset. But who knows.
