Just bought a project 1996 318ti from a broker a few days ago. here are the details:
- 1996 318ti (manufacture date 6/96)
- automatic (I know, I know, I wish it was a stick too)
- 214K
- Arctic Silver with black leather
- California power top
- 16 inch z3 wheels
The good?
- Interior is in good shape for the miles
- Runs really good (with a caveat below)
- Shifts good
- No suspension creaks, bumps, groans, etc.
- Sunroof and all windows work
- Generally seems like a solid car
She is a project because of cosmetics and some age related stuff
- both front fenders have dents and will need to be swapped out
- the hood lhas LOTS of waves and bumps, will need to be swapped
- left front sunroof drain was caulked shut. (WTF?). After I pulled the caulk plug out, I tested that drain with some water, sure enough water ran into the interior near the A-pillar. I know this means fixing that drain hose.
- Something is weird with the cooling fan. It runs from the moment I start the car. That's not right is it?
- I think the thermostat is stuck at least partially open, temp gauge never reaches the mid-point. At the most it gets to 1/3 of the gauge
- Lots of little interior plastics need help. Door panels, etc.
Anyway, that's my new project. I have a few of them.
Here is my current list of cars:
