You should have at least two or three people to support and lift it off of the car while someone unbolts it. Also, disconnect the electrical wiring and hatch strut clips PRIOR to removing the bolts. Be careful! Many people have removed the hatch struts, not expecting the hatch to be so heavy, allowed the hatch to slam shut and shattered the rear windscreen. | | | 11-06-2012, 11:59 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Miami, FL Posts: 874 | Like Jess said the hatch is extremely heavy you def need help __________________ Mods: 325is zender spoiler, 3" carbon fiber antenna, 5% tints rear windows, black out grills, Fogged air intake, Ds1 wheels, Rokkor coilovers, bilstein rear shocks, blacked out tails and home made angel eyes | | | 11-07-2012, 12:19 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: England Posts: 7 | Thanks guys, will get spare hands ! | | | 11-07-2012, 02:28 AM | #6 | Z3 Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Usa Posts: 660 | My rear hatch came down and the rear glass smashed when I pulled one of the struts.... My rear hatch is slightly crooked, I think all I need to do is loosen the 4 bolts and slightly adjust the positioning of it there. __________________ 1997 318ti 5-speed Moreagrün 1996 318ti auto Hellrot (retired) | | | 04-06-2016, 04:37 AM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2016 Location: Melbourne, Australia Posts: 3 | Quote: Originally Posted by Coyoteh I have a related question: On the 4 bolts at the hinge, are there any nuts or anything on the other side? I've got the same issue. Cheers, Andrew | | | 04-10-2016, 08:59 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 407 | Quote: Originally Posted by AndrewMSS BUMP! After finding an online workshop manual that details the process, I was able to straighten it a bit. It's still not perfect, but better. Here's the link. The site is slightly confusing to navigate at first, you'll also need the next two pages as well, link at top: http://workshop-manuals.com/bmw/3_se...%28compact%29/ __________________ 1997 318ti 5-speed Moreagrün 1996 318ti auto Hellrot (retired) | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
