Plus rust is now starting to show up on the roof of the car, and I have plenty of water damage on the inside of the car because it leaks horribly. That's why I hate it. I'm probably going to either trade it in for a different ti or make a moon roof out of the top. Sunroofs and convertibles don't excite me enough to want to take care of one either.

Sounds like you got a bad top when you bought it. Fortunately for me, mine wasn't as bad. I had broken ribs inside the canvas, scratches across the top, and then my motor died on me. So, I replace the whole unit and things have been great. It's too bad it didn't work out for you.

I just purchased a 1996 California Package for my first real car (I'm 17)
I am absolutely loving it so far. Does anybody have any cleaning suggestions for it? There are some brown stains onthere that I'd like to get rid of.

How much did that run you? The BMW dealership here in Honolulu priced 1800.00+! I was said screw that for a top! That's why I'm so bitter. A whole new replacement was pretty expensive from what I remember anyways...

Brah, you're in Hawaii?! Good to see more locals on the board!

But I can understand why it's so expensive for you. I was able to score my unit for about $1600 from the dealer after I used my BMWCCA membership discount. It was a chunk of change, but it's made a big difference in my top. Plus, I would think that the Cali top would be even mo' bettah in Hawaii.

sunroof is really important, it will be nice when you drive on the highway then open it up.

Cali roof + ///M trim kit on my 98.

EDIT... here's a question... anyone have probs w/ their cali top sealing tight up at the front? Mine sticks up about a half inch & is noisy as hell on the freeway.

check to see if your "bug guard" goes all the way down and there isn´t anything blocking it up. sounds like that is getting in the way.. mabey there´s something stuck underneath it?
