Hit an entire exhaust line on the highway today. One of those moments where you don't have enough time to react and brace for impact and hope you clear it, knowing it's close. (holds breath) Anyway, I didn't quite clear, but it didn't do much damage at all. I've read news stories where folks have been maimed or even killed by the metal **** they run over in the road that comes up through the floorboards. Anyway, the only damage as I can see so far is that it completely trashed the plastic trim that connects just beneath the bumper. I had some of it dangling and ripped it off at the side of the road. I'll take some pics tomorrow and see if anything else is damaged but I drove it around for 20 miles or so afterward and everything seems to be intact; temp holds, oil level is ok, no leaking fluid. I think I got lucky. I looked on realoem.com and couldn't see any listing for this trim work. Anyone got any help here if I decide to try to replace it? | | | 08-26-2006, 03:10 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Wow thats pretty lucky. Basically my advice is to always check junkyards for parts first because the parts are cheap and its fun to pull your own parts (especially over spring break when it starts raining freezing rain and you cant even get the part off!). If you cant find anything there just order it from the parts department at your bimmer dealership, plastic trim cant be too expensive. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 08-26-2006, 05:36 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | If available I'd probably check new from dealer. If that does not work PM me and I'll share some contacts. See you in Cincinnati soon bro! We make the big move next Wednesday. Let's stay in touch. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 08-30-2006, 02:25 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Panama City, Panama Posts: 30 | Check this link: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...95&hg=51&fg=15 Also, go to bavauto.com and check under fron bumper, they carry most of the plastic components of the bumper. jg | | | 09-02-2006, 02:38 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Cashville,TN Posts: 124 | Anything plastic seems to be way overpriced at the dealership. I hate it. __________________ Mmm.. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
