It takes more to make electricity to make usable hydrogen fuel than just using electricity to power the car. I guess the plus is mile range? Still cool they did it with a 12 cyl- does that mean it makes more water vapor?- but it still eats more fuel which takes energy to make. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 09-13-2006, 05:07 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Tampa, FL Posts: 677 | ....12cyl....260hp....no thanks! lol Give me that fuel power baby! Its cool though how technology is advancing but I dont think this is something that will truly stick... __________________ my new world | | | 09-13-2006, 09:32 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Pennsylvania Posts: 218 | I just hope whatever happens with the new fuel doesn't become a nightmare like we have seen in electronics technology (beta-max anyone?), a good example is this recent developement with the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD. | | | 09-13-2006, 10:46 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Tampa, FL Posts: 677 | I think corn fuel is a good idea, it boosts up the economy for US farmers which have drastically been losing their farms and it forces more land to become undeveloped by houses and industrial buildings. People complain because it is the same price as gas and it doesnt help mileage but I really think we will have to rely on more then just petroleum eventually, maybe not now for another 20-50 years but its bound to happen. __________________ my new world | | | 09-14-2006, 12:53 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Gilroy Posts: 158 | My ti runs on Jack and Coke.... a lot like myself | | | 09-15-2006, 05:48 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Pennsylvania Posts: 218 | "We do not inherit the earth from our parents, we borrow it from our children." native American Quote... That said, until there is something cheaper and easier to get than petrol -- either because there is a great new technology or there just isn't any more petrol -- the world will continue to run on petrol. a lot of people care about the environment and about the global economy, but at the end of the day "people" just want to get to where they are going -- like everything else in nature we settle to the path of least resistance. Its nice to see companies like BMW getting involved in this more though. | | | 09-15-2006, 06:56 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | There is not enough farmable land in the world to make a significant dent in the fuel requirements. And Farming is not low impact to the planet. Everybody touts brazil as the fair haired golden child for using Ethanol, at the cost of millions of acres of rain forest being cut to build sugar plantations. If you don't rotate crops you have to augment your soil with fertalizers IE oil products. There is still more oil in the planet than we have used. Demand drives processing solutions in the end.....
