LOL mine has been on since I bought it. I have the ABS , ASC and a red triangle with a red circle in the middle. I am assuming they are all related and the ASC and ABS to be inop , I dont care for the ASC as I do live in the North East and wheel spin is needed for the winter.

mines been on since i bought it, likewise i live in the north east and autocross my car so the wheelspin and abs are just intrusions. I do know however that the reason they're on are because a wheel sensor is messed up

Rear ABS sensors usually come out fairly easily. Fronts however, I've never seen one come out in one piece. They tend to become fused to the spindle.

I have read that E36 models without ASC+T have two front wheel sensors, and one sensor for the rear. ASC+T cars, like my 1998 Ti, have a sensor on each corner. On the ASC+T cars, the signal from each rear wheel sensor is also used for an additional function. Right rear is used for cruise control, and left rear is used for speedometer/odometer. Being aware of this was helpful before I identified my left front sensor as having failed. Speedometer/odometer and cruise were still working when the warning lights came on, so I knew it wasn't either of the two rear sensors.

My experience getting that old left front sensor out was in line with CoolJess' comment about the front sensors never coming out in one piece.

The other thing I've noticed about the wheel sensors is that the plastic housing that encases each sensor is prone to developing cracks, and when moisture gets in the signal gets "flaky", or quits all together. I've had some luck coating the sensor housing with grease, although, with my left front replacement, the grease has not made it entirely resistant to flakiness when it's really wet out.

I think the relays are even labeled ABS.

Sure it's not an ABS sensor?
