I went out to warm my car up this morning since it was about 42 out and frosty. I let the car warm up for about five minutes before I started to back out of the driveway and I see a nice sized puddle of oil under where my car was just parked. Now that kinda stressed me out but not too much since my car has developed a slow leak over the past year or so and it has 275k on the motor. I know the head gasket needs to be changed but I think its might be best to find a used engine and drop it in there. I am very pleased with how long my car has lasted. Definitely the best and most reliable car I have owned so far. The down side is now tracking down a used engine and having to drop it off at a garage for a few days. I'm gonna have to rely on friends for rides to and from work. Anyone have any leads on used engines in the philly/south jersey area? __________________ Clever but we are clueless... The gasket will wear out and start to leak/ squirt a little oil. You can tell if its the gasket because there will be a pool of oil sitting on the engine behind the oil filter housing. You'll probably need a flashlight to see.. Its an easier fix than finding and replacing a motor... That's the most common source that I've seen on these cars. There's an o ring and a paper seal. Both will need replaced, but it's the o ring that's usually the culprit. Otherwise I'd take a close look at the oil pan for cracks. The valve cover/spark plug gaskets, timing cover gaskets, head gasket, and F&R crank seals may leak, but it's usually not enough to pool up in the driveway. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 10-20-2008, 06:09 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: PA Posts: 822 | Thanks for all the input guys. I really appreciate that. I've looked over everything with my dad who is a mechanic and we determined that its the head gasket and that's something we decided not to tackle since the high miles on the engine. I think the best long term solution is dropping in another engine into my car. __________________ Clever but we are clueless... I would prefer to have the M Coupe as my weekend car and the ti as a daily driver. So that is my current plan. __________________ Clever but we are clueless... I am hoping someone on here has a used M44 engine I can buy from them. __________________ Clever but we are clueless... I have asked them to source out a LSD as well. They said it should take them a bout a week to source everything and get back to me. I'm hoping to find an engine with less than 120k. So please let me know if you know of any M44 engines for sale in the Philadelphia area. __________________ Clever but we are clueless... It's a long drive but may be worth the money you save considering the price. http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24109 __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 10-22-2008, 06:28 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: PA Posts: 822 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 | Hey cooljess, thanks for the heads up.
