And what exactly can I do with it? Put one of those cargo carriers on top? | | | 03-03-2007, 06:19 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | I'm not sure about all the items that can mount to it. If you look at the other items the seller has listed, he does have 2 snowboard brackets, that work with this rack. Worth the money I think. Maybe I'll just buy them, since I pay no shipping. OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer (direct from manufacturer, no BMW middleman). bobby; I think philip of vitesse (H3_2.1-ti) posted pics at some point. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 03-05-2007, 02:57 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Great White North! Posts: 701 | In my opinion the new OE roof racks from BMW are the best on the market. It's quieter than my associate's Yakima and he has a fairing installed. Here's a pic with the two mtb racks installed: http://www.318ti.org/forum/attachmen...9&d=1167517896 Cheers, __________________ Engine: 2.1L Hartge conversion (bored to 86X91mm, ported & polished head, new valves, new crank, & upgraded ECU), Supersprint SS headers, Hartge exhaust, custom cat bypass (track), KV85 wires, Bosch platinum plugs, Vitesse cf spark plug cover, Vitesse cf CAI, Samco hoses, Fiamm air horns. The kayak I'm looking at is just under 18 feet long, whereas the ti comes in around 14 feet... trying to keep the weight centered on the rack, I'd assume it'd basically come even with the nose of the car and hang an extra 4 feet off the back. I'd obviously have it strapped down on the rack, then tie down the nose and tail to the bottom of the car. Has anyone tried anything like this with a rack on ti? I get the feeling I'm trying to fit a square peg in round hole on this one, but I've got enough engineer friends to know it's unwise to dismiss an idea just because on first glance it seems unintuitive! Any constructive feedback appreciated! | | | 04-15-2007, 01:45 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | I think the roof load is something like 110lbs total, so you have to subtract the weight of the rack from what you want to carry. Other than that, I don't think it's a horrible idea. I've put a 12' projector screen on the top of the ti without issue, but it was only about a 15 mile drive. You'll have to pick up an extra tow loop, but you can use those to tie down in the front and back. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
