So... I haven't posted in a while. Because the ti isn't doing so hot. I'm in a really tight spot financially and my car has only now been on the "able to spend money on" list. My brake caliper rests on the inside of my wheel now. I got a huge bang on my street right before my driveway (lucky me), and my brakes went out. Visual diagnosis spotted the rogue caliper, so I removed the wheel to investigate. The caliper seemed to be in the right place with the wheel off, so I put the wheel back on, and the caliper wasn't rubbing then either, so I pushed the car forward in my driveway, when the caliper began to rub again. I have checked to make sure it wasn't just one part of the rim that was touching, it stays there consistently. I asked a mechanic bud and he said it sounded like a broken caliper slider pin. I've never even heard of these, and if that is the case, what might I be looking at to have it fixed. I don't want to get ripped off by a mechanic. Thanks for all the help guys | | | 03-16-2008, 06:14 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 1,305 | i don't know what the slider pin is but there are the two guide bolts that go into those rubber holes in the caliper itself. there's the anti-rattle clip on the front of it and then there are the two bolts that hold the carrier down. those are the only things I can think of that hold the caliper in place | | | 03-16-2008, 06:35 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Los Alamos, NM Posts: 344 | All of these pieces are in place. I had the exact same problem now that I think about when I went to solid guide pin bushings. I removed them and went back to stock since then. You may want to try getting a bushing replacement kit with new guide pins. Do both sides. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 03-16-2008, 07:45 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Los Alamos, NM Posts: 344 | 1996 328ti, how much would that cost me do you think? | | | 03-16-2008, 08:20 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by momorugger 1996 328ti, how much would that cost me do you think? | http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...69&hg=34&fg=05 34111157038 KIT GUIDE BUSH MSRP $14.60 34111157041 GUIDING BOLT MSRP $20.10 A good price would be 20% off MSRP. In my case it was the metal bushing that caused the binding. I just can't think of anything else. A caliper is a pretty simple device. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
