Default Vacuum connection on post 10/96 M44

M44'ers,

Basically done with my M44 motor swap, aside from refilling the PS resivoir and figuring out a potential vacumm connection. Can I ask you to take a look at your post 10/96 M44 to see if you have a 3mm vaccumn hose coming out of the throttle body towards the front of the car by the TPS?

The vacuum attachment point is to the left and below of the TPS. (In the center of the flashlight spot. ) Darn, the photo needs to be rotated 90 degrees to the right.

If you do have a hose attached, can you see where it leads? On an early M44 it goes to the Fuel pressure regulator. on a post 10/96 M44 the fuel reg is in the underside of the car, next to the fuel filter. I don't recall disconnecting a hose from this connector, but suspect I'll have a vacuum leak if I leave it unconnected/capped.

Thanks much!

Rich it's been so long since I've looked at an M44, but I'm pretty sure that hose goes to the secondary air pump check valve. There's some good pics in this thread:
http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9431

The hose looks like item#13 and attaches to item#15 (shut off valve) in this illustration:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...58&hg=11&fg=45

Edit; Nope, I'm wrong. Not sure what attaches to that fitting.

Hey Jess! Ya, I have 13/15 connected. What's interesting is Pic #4 in the first link. I see the braided covered hose, remember it coming off the fuel reg on the pre 10/96 M44, but don't recall pulling it off the Post 10/96 M44. Might be getting too forgetful for this.

I did renew the brittle 3mm vacuum hoses while i had the intake off with silicone based hoses and transferred the braided covers over to the replacement hoses I don't recall one for that side of the throttle.

Looking at the RealOEM diagram again, it might come off the #2 vacuum "t" fitting. I'll see where that one connected to, or find it dangling somewhere. It makes sense as one side of the "t" fitting goes down to the Fuel reg under the car. Thanks for responding! I think it may lead to a solution...

I was looking at that hose the other day. Couldn't see where it went without taking the upper intake off. It seemed to run straight back under the upper intake, I tugged on it a few times to see if any other hoses moved around the engine bay but I didn't see anything. If I get a chance to get under the car this weekend I'll try and see where it goes.

On mine (10/96) that tube goes from there to FPR.

Update:

Jess's reference picture caused me to remember one additional hose.

It is a 3mm vacuum hose off of a t-fitting behind the starter. The big clue was the tape blue label I placed on the hose that read "vacuum/throttle body." I actually replaced the old cracking rubber hose with a new silicone one and replaced the braided sheathing.

I was able to locate it from under the car and pulled it out from the front of the now assembled motor using a claw pickup tool. 15 min...

It is a vacuum hose on a junction fitting that connects to the fuel regulator under the car.

Now off to get some synthetic ATF for the PS system then start it up.

Thanks Jess, Spidertri. Redtrex and Zoner for your responses!

Cheers,

Ya, That's like my donor motor. Pre 11/96 went directly to the FPR on the fuel rail. Post 10/96 went to the relocated FPR under the car by the driver seat.

Just jotting this down for reference for the next person wondering about the difference.

Thanks for your feedback!

So if I'm understanding what your saying correctly then part #2 connects to the throttle body, the FPR and to part #4
