I have noticed a decrease in mileage on a 96 base with the software. Anyone else experience less? | | | 10-24-2011, 04:56 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Yes. Not so much on the highway but definitely in city driving. I'm only running a chip on mine (OBD-I). | | | 10-24-2011, 11:45 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2009 Location: Orange County, CA Posts: 2,019 | I wanted to do a reflash but... idk kinda worried. I'll do it this evening and see if there's been a change. | | | 10-24-2011, 04:07 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Maybe you are stomping on the gas more? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-24-2011, 04:30 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Phx Posts: 196 | Here and there, but I've run a few tanks real chill to test. Drove to and from LA last weekend and saw a loss on the highway compared to my last LA-PHX drive. A couple MPG. Not detrimental, but was a little shocked since everyone, including the installer, talked about an increase. | | | 10-24-2011, 05:01 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Ottawa Posts: 579 | I have much better software then Dinan and one of my focused area's was to make sure that fuel economy was not compromised while under part throttle load and still have better/smoother acceleration in all conditions However if you are pushing the gas and doing many WOT pulls you can forget the fuel economy on any tune It is also possible your O2 sensors are getting slow and this will cause economy problems of course check your battery conditions and charging voltage off the alternator Also check your spark plugs for excessive carbon build up Have the dealer reset the emissions adaption routine for the DME best of luck! Do you have tuning software for a 96 ti now? I emailed you a month ago or so and you said you had nothing. That's what got me looking into the Dinan. | | | 10-24-2011, 07:37 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Ottawa Posts: 579 | Quote: Originally Posted by mreroc Thanks for the info Barrie. Maybe I was mis reading your email ? forward to me if you can Thanks! | | | 10-24-2011, 08:19 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Phx Posts: 196 | Sounds good, doing so in a couple minutes. | | | 10-25-2011, 02:00 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | So here's the verdict: 199 tanks of gas pre-Dinan software = 29.17 mpg average 30 tanks of gas with Dinan software = 29.83 mpg average Obviously the sample size without the software is much bigger. Looking at the numbers there is a pattern of lower mpg for the few tanks immediately following the install. I'll attribute that to the "new toy" effect as it started to creep back up after a while. I'll have to keep an eye on it going forward, but for me at least it looks like it's a very slight increase but nothing to get excited about. Your mileage may vary, literally. | | | 10-25-2011, 07:41 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Fl Posts: 1,353 | I have been driving the 95 club sport around the past 2 weeks. It has the Dinan chip. I got 25 mpg but that is literally all in town 5 miles at a time. __________________ SUPPORT 318ti.org! CLICK THE LINK ABOVE!
