Default boat on roof

I row competitively and go to regattas with a 26 foot boat on the roof of my 535. Some times I carry a double scull that is 35 feet long. It only weighs 60 pounds. Has anybody figured out how to put long things on the roof of a 3318Ti?

Would this be strong enough to support the boat??

I've carried a 16 ft projector screen on the top of my ti using thule racks. Just balance the weight over the load bars and get creative with racheting load straps.

Remember to use fluorescent tape at both ends (legal requirement in most states).

Get a Cali-top Ti, open the top and put the boat, letting it stick out the top?

LOL... if the boat is 26 feet long and is sticking out the top of the car vertically, it won't go under some interstate overpasses!! That would be pretty funny looking though.

But seriously... wow, I'm trying to envision driving with the 35-footer on top. That must be a lot of fun to deal with in a parking lot.

What brand of roof rack to you have on your 535?

FWIW, a friend of mine used to have a 20-ft or so boat that he would strap upside-down to the roof of his 2-door 95 Nissan Sentra, he just had some foam wrapped around the parts of the boat that rested on the roof, didn't dent his roof in at all

Awesome, another sculler! I sculled for the Quad City Rowing Association for the last four years. Well I would think that it would be very possible to carry a single on a 318ti, I saw someone carry his Empacher and Croakers on his MINI Cooper S at Midwest Regionals a couple years ago. You would need just the bars of a rack, that go across the car length wise, basically the base part of the rack that the different attachments (bike rack, ect.) go on to. Just strap the shell down with boat straps the way you would to any trailer and your good to go. You wernt at Canadian Royal Henley this summer where you? I saw a 318ti there and tried to find the owner with no luck.

Default roof rack

I use a Thule rack on the 535. I drove to the US masters nationals in Oak Ridge a few years ago. I had a double and 2 singles. I was ahead of schedule and drove a large section of the blue ridge parkway. I did the Can Henley a couple of years ago. I am a 55 year old rower.

Well age doesnt always matter, Ive had my ass handed to me by a guy in his 60s. Yeah just using the basic rack bars you should be able to haul a single and oars no problem, Im not sure where they sell em for the ti or if you could order them new but you should be able to get by just fine with that set up.
