I have a 1997 bmw 318 ti. 2 days ago i went to start it and it wouldnt even attempt to turn over. There was litterally nothing happening when i turned the key. At first i thought it may be the battery but then realized all the accesories were turned on. I checked my clutch saftey switch and it was all good and i can hear it engaging from the clicking noise in by the glove box. If someone has the same year 318 could you please send me a pic of your key and any replys would be awesome!!!! | | | 12-06-2011, 12:30 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | I would still try to jump start it. Even though the accessories are on (radio, interior lights, etc.), the battery may not be producing enough amperage to engage the starter. Doesn't take a lot of draw to run those accessories but the starter requires a lot. | | | 12-06-2011, 01:47 AM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: pilot butte sk Posts: 4 | tried that and no different! | | | 12-06-2011, 05:01 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2010 Location: Brandon, MS Posts: 21 | Please Help Mine did the same thing today. No start at all. Tried to jump, but still nothing. Interior lights, radio, windows all work. Headlights will only come on when the key is in the on position. Markers and tail lights work when the light switch is pulled. | | | 01-06-2012, 11:51 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Ontario, Canada Posts: 67 | Feeze95, 47driver - Any luck with your issues or cause of same? Did you sort it out and if so how? My issue - 5, Jan 2012, 1996 318ti, Went to work and all was good, at the end of the day when i attempted to start, the engine turns but will not catch. AA verified that the battery was good, flat bedded to the garage and the damn thing started at the first turn, making me look like a real fool. No error codes, nothing to indicate a issue. So i come home, park and the next morning the same deal, no start. I checked the plugs and there is no spark, so obviously some sort of a electrical gemlin. If someone has some idea where to start i am all ears .... this is driving me crazy .... | | | 01-07-2012, 02:02 AM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: pilot butte sk Posts: 4 | Fixed!!!!! It ended up being the starter, bmw regina told me that when these starters go they have a wire that sends a signal to the computer saying im all good. If the starter goes the computer doesnt get a signal stating the starters good thus no spark! He also said it will not throw a code because, it would throw a code saying your computers dead when it is actually ok! | | | 01-15-2012, 05:28 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2010 Location: Brandon, MS Posts: 21 | Mine ended up being the sensor aroungd the key. Looks like a trim ring. It fle out and I didn't notice in the dark. Put it back in place and stared on first try. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
