So I buy all these things. Stuff them in the case. Install windows.
Do I need to find drivers for some of these things?

Windows should have enough basic drivers to get you running. The first thing I'd do is get WiFi running or ethernet connected so you get internet access. Then download all the latest drivers from the respective manufacture websites. This will probably be the most annoying task to get all the drivers installed and updates to finish. It is my most hated part of setting up/reformatting a computer.

No need for a sound card. Your motherboard has onboard sound so you'll be fine.

I'm a little confused what you're aiming for on this desktop. Do you just need this for iRacing? If so, your $1200 build is overkill. No need for that high end of hard drives, video card or CPU.

I made an $800 for you. I still stand by the i5-4460 and R290 as being enough for your needs. I also downgraded the hard drives from running 1.2TB to only 120GB, which should be enough for just gaming. I added a optical drive as you'll need it to install Windows. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wJvq7P

Just iRacing. But I may want to run triple monitors.

You don't need 1TB then. The Crucial MX100 should be enough for just iRacing. If running triple monitors, you may want to look into a second cheap video card that you can run as a slave to operate the third monitor.

MiniZ, I like the idea of that R9 290x, was going to jump on it at that price, but sold out. I can't find it for less than $100 more than the price you had.

What would you think of the R9 270x @ $214?

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to find a good middle of the road card. The GTX 970, seems like the most boss card out there right now and I don't need that.

I know some of it is overkill.
I've been using my 2011 Macbook Pro and the GPU is going to go up in flames if I don't so something soon. The fans are spinning at +6000 rpm.

Video is overkill, I know.
Probably could get by with a slower processor.

Ended up buying from multiple places. Probably saved money on the parts but cost more in shipping. Who knows?

Only thing not on the list is a 2.5" drive adapter. Don't know if I'll need it.
Also may get an Asus VG278HE 27 3D Ready LCD VG278HE monitor.

Thanks for everyone's advice.

Cool! So you really got that vid card, that is beast.

I've been buying as well. So far GPU, CPU, and SSD. The rest will get sorted in the next few days.

I appreciate you doing this thread here, gave me the kick to finally just get going. Wish us luck on putting all this together!

Now back to the TI talk then.....

The reason I got that card was so I wouldn't have to buy an additional card if I went to triple monitors.
I know nothing about PCs. We'll see how it goes.

Video card has fans. Do I need to buy separate fans or heat sink for the CPU?
Read the motherboard manual.
Getting nervous already.

All I have so far is the video cards.

You shouldn't need extra fans for the CPU. It will come with a fan and heat sink with it. Most likely you will have to apply the heat sink to the chip, but sink should come with thermal paste on it already and you just stick it on there and plug her in to the MoBo.

You will be surprised how easy it is. Once you get the case just sick the MoBo in there and the rest will come together very easy.

I'd reccomend grounding yourself before sticking the chip on the MoBo. Touch a stove or fridge or something grounded.

It's killing me waiting to put this together.
I have everything except the motherboard and power supply.
Just got my ASUS VG278HE - 27" LCD monitor from Best Buy.
