I think its the same box on all e-36. About the size of a pack of cigarettes. Sounds like you shorted out one of the instrument illumination wires which in turn blew the dimmer rheostat in the headlight switch. I've posted on this same topic a few times before. Search my username for headlight switch. | | | 07-17-2009, 08:05 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: birmingham Posts: 20 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Replace the headlight switch. Search my username for headlight switch. | I've had the same problem! ive changed my headlight switch and now it working fine. The only problem ive got now after replacing the switch is before my front fog lights came when i had my sidelights on. Now i have to have my headlights on to on the fogs. Can someone please confirm if fogs should come on with sidelights or headlights | | | 07-18-2009, 02:05 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Rio de Janeiro - Brasil Posts: 133 | Quote: Originally Posted by ALP1NA I've had the same problem! ive changed my headlight switch and now it working fine. I have to buy three switchs before get the right one. | | | 07-18-2009, 07:24 PM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: birmingham Posts: 20 | Quote: Originally Posted by Alexandre VTS Alpina, Probably you got the wrong light switch. When i called BMW i was told there are 3 types of switches so they have ordered all 3. When i got there and checked only 1 switch had a dimmer. strange | | | 07-18-2009, 07:31 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Rio de Janeiro - Brasil Posts: 133 | I have here 2 different switches with dimmer | | | 07-18-2009, 07:39 PM | #12 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Correct, there are 3 different switches. One of them is a foglight switch which has a differnt pin configuration. The other two are for the Ti and Z3. I was wondering what the differences were and now I know. I think the newer style switch allows you to run the fog lights without the headlights or maybe it's the opposite. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
