Default new mounting flange // coolant fix question

I investigated a coolant leak a while back and noticed that my mounting flange to the upper cylinder was broken. I replaced it with the following part from ECS Tuning in the USA. You can see the new parts on the right (link to picture below). The newer flange has a ring on the nipple which is not on the piece I'm replacing. Keep in mind that the piece on the left was broken. Part of the plastic is within the house.

So with the new part, it seems there is less space to put the hose and clamp down. Has anyone replaced this part and can advise? Should I just put the hose on the limited space here and clamp down? I'm used to seeing some sort of rib here or perhaps a series of ribs. Thank you.
