Super 77 3m Spray Adhesive. If you headliner is not black you might want to color the headliner black before laying up the Carbon Fiber. 2k 2x2 weave. We left the stock Foam/felt attached, because rx7 never sag, we also wanted to keep the plushness,. If you do not have enough thickness on your headliner, the trim around tends not to grab a hold of it so if you do strip and redo your own put a layer of thin 2-3mm thick foam on the headliner before attaching a material of your choice. Lay up 3M spray Adhesive super 77 Finishing the Lay up Done. __________________ 1996 318Ti M-Tech Sport Non-Active 1990 RX-7 GTUs Widebody project 1990 RX-7 GTUs Brilliant Black "1 of 10" 1984 RX-7 GSL-SE 1963 Lincoln Continental *Suicide* | | | 06-09-2010, 01:52 AM | #93 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | Quote: Originally Posted by Phil Marx Anybody bother to check what a new headliner costs from BMW? I called around to a couple of different places locally to get it recovered and got prices that were all over the map and not that great compared to a new piece from the dealer. So, I bought it from the dealer. I also got new A pillar covers. Part numbers for black interior are below for reference. Total cost was $324.97 with tax and after my BMWCCA discount. It took about an hour and a half to swap them out. The hardest part was probably getting the initial alignment. The A pillar covers are a little tricky as well. I found it to be easier to put the metal clips on the covers before you try to install them. Leaving the clips in the frame was a little more difficult. My headliner is in need of some love too. I'd consider recovering it myself, but I really don't have a decent place to do the work. EDIT - Wow, almost FIVE years after starting this thread, I'm finally getting around to dealing with this. How sad is that? LOL __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! However, here are some more part numbers: 51448189218 - headliner (schwarz w. sunroof) 51448189229 - sunroof motor cover (schwarz) 54128191167 - sunroof liner (ANTHRAZIT '93) Pelican PartsTischerLocal BMW Dealer I only had time today to get one estimate from a local shop. Without seeing it, he said that the range is $395 to $695. The funny thing was that when I mentioned the possibility that I might do it myself, he said "Oh, you don't want to do that." When I told him that there was a web site for my car with a LOT of good info and I knew people who had done this on their cars, he just said that web sites never have all the info. LOL If I can find a workspace, I'll probably give it a shot myself. __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! I hate interior work and I did it all by myself in about an hour and a half. I even stopped to oil my mailbox hinges of all things. There are wire connectors on the lights, the visors, and the visor clips. Other than that it's just a matter of a handful of screws and some patience. The A pillar covers are a little tricky as I mentioned before, but nothing a little patience won't take care of. BTW, I did this in the street in front of my house with the screwdriver from the toolkit. Not hard. | | | 06-11-2010, 04:56 PM | #101 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2009 Location: Orange County, CA Posts: 2,019 | So what i used for my headliner is Compound cement since i heard 3m #77 doesn't have a high heat rating and car's do get hot. I used the compound and it was easy to put on, just roll it with a paint roller and your all good. some piece's need painting still like the handles etc. so much dirt i know I am a bad owner Painting some interior peices with Paint i got from local auto parts meant for interior. to this and pics of the headliner and pieces. Sorry for the crappy pics now on to the next project. Also added a little light in my trunk since i can't find the bulb that is used for the light in the cargo area, anyone know what size it is or can buy a holder for it? __________________ V2 in progress. Will probably do the pillars at the same time since the fabric is non-OEM. | | | 08-13-2010, 04:46 PM | #104 | Member Join Date: Jul 2010 Location: NC Posts: 33 | I'm still waiting on someone to tell me how many yards of fabric I need for the headliner, parcel shelf, and pillars. I will be doing this myself because I don't trust shops in general, and this thread has been an excellent example of why. | | | 08-13-2010, 05:58 PM | #105 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Thread cleaned up.
