Default Body Roll

hi,

right my ti has been lowered about 40-50mm using 'FK automotive, high tec sports suspension kit' but i still think the handling could be improved and think that the car suffers a bit to much from 'body roll' not severe but noticeable!

its a m-tech compact btw so should be pretty good as standard!

what should i do to ultimately reduce body roll so that it sticks to the road like s**t to a shovel?

options as i see it:
- sway bars, anybody got H&R ones? if so what they like as seen some cheapish on the net
- strut bars front & rear or just an x-brace
- Any other options?

maybe just do one of the options as i'm on a tight budget

Any advice would be appreciated

for body roll you have two options with several fans in each camp.

stiffer sway bars or stiffer spring rates. i have all of the above and i have found that while using H&R Race springs (which have a pretty soft spring rate to begin with) i was not able to 'control' body roll until i installed my Eibach sway bars. several guys in my neck of the woods use the sway bars at the softest setting and just play around with the spring rates to get the same affect.

The clue is in the name, sway bars, control the amount of sway in the body, and will help the handling, whereas trying to control this with stiffer and stiffer springs, will just lead to an uncomfortable ride, and poor handling on uneven surfaces.

X-brace does the most, costs the least.

x-brace does not fix body roll. Sway bars and spring rates.

I run the front H&R bar full stiff, stock M-Tech rear bar, H&R race springs and Koni yellows. I do have a front strut tower brace, but I don't really notice any change in the car with it.

The x-brace was designed to prevent the car's frame from twisting. If that doesn't reduce body roll I'm not sure how a sway bar would.

Additionally, the intended effect of reducing body roll is, quote: "so that it sticks to the road like s**t to a shovel." I'm not sure you will find anyone that says otherwise of the x-brace.

The two work very differently.

The chassis flexing is not body roll. The world's stiffest chassis would still have body roll, and could then have really bad body roll depending on the suspension.

A sway bar uses it's resistance to twisting to limit the movement of the suspension, therefore reducing body roll.

How does a chassis brace do it? It's not connected to the suspension, so how does it limit it's movement in response to forces?

I never said that a x-brace was bad, but it won't reduce body roll to any noticeable degree.

If you can tell me otherwise, I'll happily concede.

+1.

Performance sway bars will make the difference you're looking for. They will also give you the ability to dial in over/understeer. In addition changing spring rates can also make a difference, but aren't ideal for street use. You have to experiment to find the rate you're confortable with; until then you might spend loads of $. It's also subjective. I may like a rate that you find too extreme for the street or visa versa.

Cheers,

Body roll is not always bad, Depending on your goal a little body roll helps plant the car and allows a better contact patch. I have sped up a lot of race cars by taking some bar out, There is usually a sweet spot where the bar and springs compliment each other, an adjustable sway bar is the ticket but more $$.

I got the a ton of improvement with H&R front & rear bars.. and so recomend them highly (as well as the x-brace, to a lesser degree).

may also wanna look into some stress bars (after you've done the sway bars).
