Hi all,
None of my searches could confirm if a UUC DSSR fit our cars or not, on this forum or others.
I do know about the AKG option, but I'm not a fan of aluminum for this application and felt that the balancer/giubo clearance bend in the shift rod was detrimental to shifter feel, particularly with a short shifter.
One of the online vendors has the E30 M3 DSSR on sale for $99, so I went ahead and bought it to test. It fits! With one caveat...
To install it, the balancing ring had to come off of the front driveshaft section. On my car (1998 with M44 motor) the balancing ring was held on by three studs pressed through the ring and into the flange on the driveshaft. I removed the studs and replaced them with the driveshaft bolts used in an E30 325i.
Otherwise, the DSSR installs like any other shifter rod. I'm using a stock 318TI shifter to get a baseline of improvement, after which I'll try a couple of other shifter options to see how they work out. I'm particularly looking forward to trying the X5 shifter.
