I chose 3M satin black vinyl, turned out pretty good! Next I'll need to replace the lower weatherstripping right there, and the side rear window surround to bring it together. __________________ 1997 318ti 5-speed Moreagrün 1996 318ti auto Hellrot (retired) | | | 11-02-2014, 05:10 AM | #273 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Jamie, where did you get the vinyl? Glued on or self adhesive? Has anyone tried to paint that piece? Not sure if anyone's tried painting it, I decided to go vinyl since it's not permanent if I messed up. __________________ 1997 318ti 5-speed Moreagrün 1996 318ti auto Hellrot (retired) | | | 11-04-2014, 04:50 AM | #279 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | Quote: Originally Posted by Coyoteh It's self adhesive, even had tiny little air channels so you don't get bubbles when installing. 3M Series 1080 vinyl. Today after work, I removed the two, cloth covered, plastic A pillar pieces. The cloth had become dingy and loose over the years. I re-glued the cloth with all purpose adhesive in a spray can, smoothing out the wrinkles. After pieces dried (quickly), I then cleaned the cloth with foam carpet cleaner, and a mild plastic bristle brush. The whole process, drying times included was less than an hour. They look close to new. There from a basic model. So I remobed the old hardware and I've resened and fiberglassed the weak area's by the door pull. next step, let everything cure than cut away the bits covering the holes. | | | 11-20-2014, 02:30 AM | #282 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 407 | New tires installed (BFG Sport Comp-2) and an alignment. I guess that qualifies as what I did to my car. Actually, I'm purchasing it for my GF. But I will be maintaining it so I guess its' technically mine. '97 Ti, auto, white, 99K miles. The pipes, resonator and cat converter were all in fine shape. My indy mechanic, who operates a Meineke franchise, found one that substituted and fit perfectly.
