And in public too. Naughty little car No seriously you have a mis-fire. Check your spark plug wires next. You most likely have a bad plug wire | | | 03-11-2010, 02:08 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by xxxJohnBoyxxx Sounds like it needs a lady with all the jerking it's doing. Naughty little car | aww, I wanted to make a masturbating joke when I saw the thread title did you get the 4-prong Bosch Platinums? our cars don't seem to like those plugs for some reason, pick up a set of factory NGK plugs and see if that fixed it | | | 03-11-2010, 04:01 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2009 Location: Detroit Posts: 164 | Quote: Originally Posted by tiFreak did you get the 4-prong Bosch Platinums? our cars don't seem to like those plugs for some reason, pick up a set of factory NGK plugs and see if that fixed it | I mentioned this issue with the Bosch's to my buddy that works at O'Reilly's. He suggested I try these They don't seem to have any issues so far | | | 03-11-2010, 04:42 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2009 Location: Chicago, IL Posts: 181 | Spark plugs are one issue. Don't use platinum. They burn up your OE wires. If your rpm varies with your jerking then I think you have a Throttle Position Sensor malfunction. Any error codes? Check Engine light? | | | 03-11-2010, 05:36 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | I used platinums in my 1998 ti for years without any issues. | | | 04-01-2010, 02:42 AM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2010 Location: AZ Posts: 15 | Quote: Originally Posted by sshakir411 hey recently my ti started jerking at really low speed. mostly wen iv stoppd..at like a light or sth. i was told it is the spark plugs i got them changed and got the best bosch ones. the jerking did not stop but got better. sumtimes it jerks a lot and the car turns off. but starts back with no problem. after the spark plug change i put in a fuel injector cleaner and it got even better. but the car still jerks at low speeds...and the power goes off. it is really annoying and i ahte it. anyone plz help/ | Having had the same issue, I would check two things: 1. Make sure you don't have a large vacuum leak, especially check the crankcase valve and associated hoses (# 16, 15 and 13): Next I would check the DISA valve for leaks (#6): | | | 04-01-2010, 02:55 AM | #8 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Get yourself a can of brake & parts cleaner. With the motor running, spray the brake cleaner on and around the rubber intake boots. Hose it down really good with brake cleaner, try to get the bottom side of the boot as well. If you notice a fluctuation in idle, you have a dry/cracked boot. Replace the boot and you're back in bizz. | | | 11-03-2010, 10:27 PM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 13 | Quote: Originally Posted by tiFreak aww, I wanted to make a masturbating joke when I saw the thread title did you get the 4-prong Bosch Platinums? our cars don't seem to like those plugs for some reason, pick up a set of factory NGK plugs and see if that fixed it | I have the 4-prong Bosch Platinums and twice (2nd just today, the first about a month ago) one plug just blows out. It's like it unthreads itself, then POP, down to 3 cylinders. I haven't been measuring the torque when I install them, but pretty much use the same amount on all the plugs, yet just one blows. Today damaged the wire end, so I need to get some new wires to go with the new plugs.. | | | 11-03-2010, 11:07 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Spud, I remember reading an about and issue that E39 owners were having where the plugs would unthread themselves like you are describing. They fixed it by torquing the plugs to spec. Just be careful not to torque them too high or you'll strip the threads. Also, I have a set of stock plug wires for sale, check my for sale thread. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 11-04-2010, 12:59 AM | #11 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 13 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri Spud, I remember reading an about and issue that E39 owners were having where the plugs would unthread themselves like you are describing. Went to screw the one back and it just kept turning and turning. Took another plug out and tried that plug, same thing. Basically, any plug I put into the blown out hole, just turns and turns. If I try any of those plugs in any other hole, they screw in correctly. What to do? | Damn bro you have a stripped spark plug thread on the head. I don't think that can be fixed without removing the head. I'm sorry to break the bad news to you. | | | 11-04-2010, 01:48 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | Other possibility is it may have a faulty coil pack. | | | 11-04-2010, 02:01 AM | #14 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 13 | Quote: Originally Posted by xxxJohnBoyxxx Damn bro you have a stripped spark plug thread on the head. Is it possible to re-tap the threads or would I need a new head? Seems one of the plugs just went straight through; I could feel the threads of the plug slide past the threads in the head. Don't think that hole could be re-tapped. | | | 11-04-2010, 02:18 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Google "spark plug thread repair" it can be done with the head still on the engine you just need to find a good reputable mechanic to do it. Call a local bmw or euro shop and ask about it. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
