Sounds like it needs a lady with all the jerking it's doing. And in public too. Naughty little car

No seriously you have a mis-fire. Check your spark plug wires next. You most likely have a bad plug wire

aww, I wanted to make a masturbating joke when I saw the thread title

did you get the 4-prong Bosch Platinums? our cars don't seem to like those plugs for some reason, pick up a set of factory NGK plugs and see if that fixed it

I mentioned this issue with the Bosch's to my buddy that works at O'Reilly's. He suggested I try these

They don't seem to have any issues so far

Spark plugs are one issue. Don't use platinum. They burn up your OE wires.

If your rpm varies with your jerking then I think you have a Throttle Position Sensor malfunction.

Any error codes? Check Engine light?

I used platinums in my 1998 ti for years without any issues.

Having had the same issue, I would check two things:

1. Make sure you don't have a large vacuum leak, especially check the crankcase valve and associated hoses (# 16, 15 and 13):

Next I would check the DISA valve for leaks (#6):

Get yourself a can of brake & parts cleaner. With the motor running, spray the brake cleaner on and around the rubber intake boots. Hose it down really good with brake cleaner, try to get the bottom side of the boot as well. If you notice a fluctuation in idle, you have a dry/cracked boot. Replace the boot and you're back in bizz.

I have the 4-prong Bosch Platinums and twice (2nd just today, the first about a month ago) one plug just blows out. It's like it unthreads itself, then POP, down to 3 cylinders. I haven't been measuring the torque when I install them, but pretty much use the same amount on all the plugs, yet just one blows. Today damaged the wire end, so I need to get some new wires to go with the new plugs..

Spud, I remember reading an about and issue that E39 owners were having where the plugs would unthread themselves like you are describing. They fixed it by torquing the plugs to spec. Just be careful not to torque them too high or you'll strip the threads.

Also, I have a set of stock plug wires for sale, check my for sale thread.

I may hit you up for those. However I think I have a bigger problem. Went to screw the one back and it just kept turning and turning. Took another plug out and tried that plug, same thing. Basically, any plug I put into the blown out hole, just turns and turns. If I try any of those plugs in any other hole, they screw in correctly. What to do?

Damn bro you have a stripped spark plug thread on the head. I don't think that can be fixed without removing the head. I'm sorry to break the bad news to you.

Other possibility is it may have a faulty coil pack.

I was afarid of that. What am I looking at costwise? I'm thinking $1000 - $2000. Is it possible to re-tap the threads or would I need a new head? Seems one of the plugs just went straight through; I could feel the threads of the plug slide past the threads in the head. Don't think that hole could be re-tapped.

Google "spark plug thread repair" it can be done with the head still on the engine you just need to find a good reputable mechanic to do it. Call a local bmw or euro shop and ask about it.
