If i turn the key sometimes it starts right up, but sometimes i get a (whiiiizzzz sound), it can take up to 3-4 tries to get it starts. It sounds like the starter does not engage. I have never heard any grinding, the previous owner said he has never heard grinding either... Is this just a bad starter I need to replace? | | | 08-20-2008, 02:15 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Thats the starters solenoid going out, common problem. Cure is a new starter, preferrably with the threaded ear. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 08-22-2008, 03:51 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: USA Posts: 40 | check the battery maybe its out. These are the ones to have. The non-threaded starters you have to put a washer and nut on the back of the bolt; this setup is a PITA to install. __________________ S50, Sunbelt cams, Dr.Vanos, blah, blah, blah... | | | 01-03-2009, 07:27 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2008 Location: marion, north carolina Posts: 5 | which type of starter? Hi guys, My friend owns a 1998 318ti sport and the starter went bad. My question is, does it matter which type of starter you replace it with (threaded ear or a non-threaded ear)? Or do you have to find out which type is on the car now and replace it with the same type? | | | 01-05-2009, 03:10 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Get the one with the threaded ear. You most likely have that one anyways. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
