Default electric help needed

Feb.-19-2008Hi guys ,my name is Alex and am completely new to this forum ,if I do some mistakes ,please sorry.
OK ,I’ve got a 318ti last summer. It was not running , the engine has been overheated the cylinder head was warped. I put a new piston rings ,new head gasket and done a machine work on the cylinder head . Afterward I’ve got decent engine but still doesn’t run. There was a electric supply problem .The main relay did not get ground from the DME and fuel pump relay wasn’t powered . So ,I replaced the DME and got power to the fuel pump relay , and the electric components after it , but now the DME doesn’t ground the fuel pump relay and the ignition coil and injectors. U know when you turn the key ON , you hear the buzzing sound from the fuel pump – I don’t .I make sure the pump is OK. So I gave up.
The last chance I have is ,if the overheated engine burned somehow the crank position sensors , or camshaft sensor . I read somewhere ,if DME don’t get a signal from the crank sensors , or camshaft sensor it wont operate the ignition and fuel system . That’s my question , do you guys think that’s possible ? I’ll take any advise and thanks in advise .

What about the basic stuff?
Battery terminals clean.
Bad battery.
Engine ground strap connection bad.
Starter wiring loose.

A bad CPS should throw a CEL code.

Sometimes, owners remove the bulb instead of fixing the problem. The computer will still store the codes though, so you can have them read.

Maybe its out of gas.

So, does it get spark?

Did you do a compression check after the engine work?

Default Electrical Problem

Did you have the new DME reset to match the chip in your key? The DME and keys are matched for theft protection.

No spark at all.I got the battery voltage to the ignition coil ,but no spark. So I assume there is no ground from the DME.And I didn't know the DME and the key shuold be alighned in someway. On the otherhand ,the engine cranks.Should I go to the dealr with dme and the key ,just that simple ?

I copied this off of a performance chip site and it makes it sound like the DME has to match up with the key. I guess you'll have to call the dealer.

What is EWS-II? EWS-II is an additional theft-deterrent system that BMW installed in cars beginning in Dec 1994 (12/94). On cars with EWS-II the signal from the key must match up to a signal coming from the EWS-II and DME computers or the car will not start.

How does it work? The key for your BMW has a microchip embedded in it that sends an analog signal to an antenna within the ignition lock on the steering column. The antenna sends the signal to the EWS-II computer. The EWS-II computer then checks with the DME to validate the code. The car can only be started when the DME recognizes the code from the EWS-II computer. The key is simply turned, and by the time the ignition switch is reached, the EWS-II system has finished its processes and identified the electronic coding in the key and 'granted' starting permission.

Where did you get the replacement DME?

Did you put the original chip in the new DME?

The DME does not need to aligned on a 1995 with EWS-II for 1996 and on with it requires alignment.
