Post hello fellow 318ti entusiasts!

hello, my name is Anthony and i have a 1997 BMW 318ti in Montreal blue with greay and white interior. i am planning on keeping my 318ti for the rest of my life (or until i wreck it or something horrible happens) whichever one comes first but, until that day im going to do many things with my 318ti.i originally got my 318ti as my first car (i originally wanted a 300zx or a 240sx but, my dad said no). here she is with 185,xxx miles and still going strong, for the most part my car is in very good condition except for a few minor bits. for example today i did a front cross member swap with the help of my dad. it was a pretty simple job but, it took a little while to get the new one swapped in. while we were pulling it off we noticed it was covered in oil. so we swapped the new one in and decided to do the M52 swap and just nurse the M44 until the finally blows after a long life of being driven hard (by me) till the very end. i truly do love my car but my dad just wants me to get another car instead of the M52 swap because he says "it will be too hard!" and also, "it would be easier just to get another car" but, like i said i really do love my car and i want to do the swap with me and a few mates from school so, i will probably need a little bit of help with it (im still a teenager so im prone to making mistakes and flaws)

I’m sending you an email about the good and bad Sellers on this site based on my experiences. Before you purchase from ANYone here search their history and reach out for recommendations! Trust me on this!

Hey we have a 300ZX too and love it!!!!! Tell your dad to test drive the Nissan and he’ll be hooked too. They are beautiful timeless sports cars..

Welcome to the site...

Anthony in Yokohama, Cool. Check out the link for 'World Members Map' if you haven't. It looks like there are at least two of you in Japan.

Default Save the M44's!!!

Hey Anthony!

If you really want to keep the car running and your dad is thinking a swap to an M52 is a bridge to far... Have you thought about swapping in another M44?

Especially if this is your first car and first big project it pays off to keep it simple.

I've watched tons of friends get into modifying their cars too quickly and take on a huge and difficult project. Sometimes they manage to perform a miracle and things go great, but many times they get drowned in issues and trouble shooting and end up selling the car as a half baked project for much, MUCH less than they paid in parts.

That being said... i know nothing about you're experience or skills and the 6-cyl swaps are pretty well documented on several BMW forums. Once you add that much power you need to think about swapping things like the diff to a medium case Z3 part and changing the halfshafts and upgrating the brakes to slow down your faster car. Its a snowball that grows in size quickly

While the M44 is no powerhouse I run it in a stripped out endurance race car and it is reliable as a cast iron anvil. Fast? not really, but I can't count how many guys have walked up expecting to see an M50 or M52 under the hood after the car has been glued to their bumper (or passed them) in the tighter sections.

Either way you go i hope you can enjoy your ti for the fun car that it is! And of course, welcome to the forum!
