While the lighter aluminum block from the M54 is attractive that's pretty much where the attraction ends. You would need to sort out the OBD issue... convert the car to OBD2 or convert the engine to OBD1. Either way you are blazing trails (or trying to). The M54B30 also has an electronic throttle. You can convert to the throttle body from an M52tu or even M50... if not you will need the gas pedal from an E46 330 or the like. Assuming you make it work you have 225 hp an M50 with S50 cams and a chip makes the same power with MUCH less hassle and probably 1/3 the cost. __________________ SUPPORT 318ti.org! You can easily make more power than the M54, save a good bit of money, bolt it to your tranny, use any VANOS OBDI harness and throw a chip and a red label 413 in it. The weight savings is nice but unless you want to race it you won't notice the difference. Just be sure to replace the springs because its going to sit low in the front afterwards.
