Default Rear hatch trim

I've searched for this but can't find anything that helps me^. I'm In the process of doing a wiper delete and need to get behind the hatch. The two plugs near the latch are near to impossible to get off. Ive broken like two clips and now I'm just getting mad. It's the smallest things like this that are a PITA. Thanks guys
Alec

Not sure if there is a recommended procedure to remove them that will save them, but I'm pretty sure they are a one time only thing. I had to break mine to remove the hatch panel (fortunately, I didn't break any other clips), but the upside is that they are pretty cheap from the dealer- I think they were only a couple dollars a piece.

I think #2 in this diagram is what you're talking about, yes? There is one on either side of the latch mechanism on the trunk lid.

Yeah but they are circular. Are those the only clips?

No, these are circular too- even though it is hard to tell from the diagram. It's essentially a plastic rivet.

This is what the p/n looks like:

The middle part pushes in and locks it in place.

no, it's a type of expanding rivet. Just take a really small screwdriver or something pointy, push the pin all the way in and it will fall out of the backside allowing you to remove the plug portion of the clip by prying it up from the edges. If you're really careful, you might be able to push the inner pin ALMOST completely through and pry the plug out without dropping the inner pin into the hatch.
