I think they're #5 in this diagram: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...36&hg=41&fg=10 I can take a picture of mine if you need me to. | | | 05-18-2012, 11:41 PM | #2387 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Inside the engine compartment on the firewall, there's two rubber drains that I think lead up to the windshield cowl. My x-brace has the metal tab on the brace as shown, but nothing is attached to it like what is shown in the diagram. | | | 05-18-2012, 11:48 PM | #2388 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by zoner After looking at that diagram, I'm curious as to what #31 is- it looks like it may be some sort of bumper for the oil pan but there is no p/n listed. My x-brace has it. | | | 05-18-2012, 11:58 PM | #2389 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Do you know of anywhere I can find a p/n for it? Surely it's meant to be there for a reason- I'd hate to find out first hand what that reason may be... | | | 05-19-2012, 12:03 AM | #2390 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | hmm, thanks Jess. Though don't remember ever seeing those on my car. And after reviewing my engine install photos my car just has two big holes there instead of those drains. I hate this damn basket case. __________________ No more ti. | | | 05-19-2012, 05:10 AM | #2393 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | | | | 05-19-2012, 10:08 AM | #2394 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 407 | Quote: Originally Posted by familytruckster Getting frustrated with water leaks. My shop told me to just remove the rubber drains. I assume someone has already done that on your car, it did indeed fix the leak for me (the drains had become brittle and pretty much closed themselves up). Since yours are already gone, try checking around in there for debris. You'd be surprised how many leaves and stuff finds its way down there. __________________ 1997 318ti 5-speed Moreagrün 1996 318ti auto Hellrot (retired) | | | 05-19-2012, 08:09 PM | #2395 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | can you access those drains from the top where the cabin air filters are? And the answer is yes. And they are completely clear. I think it's something with the door. The water does seem to run in where the kick panel and door sill some together. __________________ No more ti. I thought the issue was at the drains below the cowling at first, then I suspected the door area, but it eventually turned out to be a leak from a poorly installed replacement windshield. Water would leak at the sides and run down behind the side kick panels. I have a thread showing the entire interior torn out trying to find the leak and trying to dry out the carpet...
