If it had happened there, I'd have no car I can guarantee it. So, about .5 miles past that bridge I'm doing 75 in the left lane, and the car suddenly starts fishtailing wildly. Took me about 10 seconds to reel her in and get it under control, all the while the guy next to me did not give me ANY room, like he didn't care if he got hit. So I then worked my way across 4 lanes of heavy traffic with the car fishtailing with anything less more than minute steering/throttle adjustments. Then it was a 55mph drive home, and I'm VERY glad I picked up the spare for this car. I think it's funny how low my car is the spare doesn't really look out of place. Check out the damage to the tire. I think a cut valve stem caused the inital blowout, and the damage occured during the driving with it flat, but I can't say for sure. All in all, it was a VERY eventful trip. __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R. I remember the Tappan Zee when the divider wasn't anything more than a solid yellow line. I hated that bridge. Gotta take some deep breathes now. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-12-2009, 06:08 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Rocky Mountains Posts: 610 | I'm really glad you're both ok! | | | 05-12-2009, 07:38 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | Glad you got through it okay! I'd rather get slappy in a car than on a bike! __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 05-12-2009, 11:03 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 The term "tank slapper" comes from motorcycling and it usually ends badly: | thank you, I didn't feel like looking it up glad you didn't wreck | | | 05-13-2009, 12:15 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | Thanks guys, it was definetely a rush, but oddly enough it didn't scare me at all. I guess it's from all the purposely-losing traction in parking lots/snow to get a feel for the car. 96, I can't even imagine the Tap with no barrier. That'd scare the S*** out of me And I would never want to go through that on a bike No way I could recover without getting bucked off __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. Can't imagine it with ice/snow Good luck with the teardown __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R.
