Exclamation Almost totalled my car

Well, coming home from college I almost lost the TI

Just got over the Tapanzee Bridge (if you don't know it, it's a big bridge in NY with NARROW lanes and lots of potholes. If it had happened there, I'd have no car I can guarantee it.

So, about .5 miles past that bridge I'm doing 75 in the left lane, and the car suddenly starts fishtailing wildly. Took me about 10 seconds to reel her in and get it under control, all the while the guy next to me did not give me ANY room, like he didn't care if he got hit. So I then worked my way across 4 lanes of heavy traffic with the car fishtailing with anything less more than minute steering/throttle adjustments.

Then it was a 55mph drive home, and I'm VERY glad I picked up the spare for this car. I think it's funny how low my car is the spare doesn't really look out of place.

Check out the damage to the tire. I think a cut valve stem caused the inital blowout, and the damage occured during the driving with it flat, but I can't say for sure. All in all, it was a VERY eventful trip.

WHEW. That my friend is known as a tank slapper.

I remember the Tappan Zee when the divider wasn't anything more than a solid yellow line. I hated that bridge.

Gotta take some deep breathes now.

Tank slapper indeed! Glad you managed to save it, and like Steven said, take a few deep breaths. The term "tank slapper" comes from motorcycling and it usually ends badly:

Here's a nice BMW save at the track. (watch @ 1:40sec)

Glad you got through it okay!

I'd rather get slappy in a car than on a bike!

Thanks guys, it was definetely a rush, but oddly enough it didn't scare me at all. I guess it's from all the purposely-losing traction in parking lots/snow to get a feel for the car.

96, I can't even imagine the Tap with no barrier. That'd scare the S*** out of me

And I would never want to go through that on a bike No way I could recover without getting bucked off

I hear that. Never had any problem with it in the BMW, but in anything else it's a much slower ride. Can't imagine it with ice/snow

Good luck with the teardown

Yeah, any other weekend I'd be coming, but this is a twice a year trip, and I missed the last one.

We'll definetely have to meet up. I wanna check out the Metric, and you can check out my car when it looks good for once.
