Default California roof repair...help... not motors

I recently bought a 96 with a cali roof. It needed some repair (broken pieces). I have completed the repairs but can't get the drive posts to fully insert in the roof channel. I pull the roof forward and push down on the roof as hard as I can but the drive pulleys don't go all of the way into the slots...so the roof doesn't open. It binds up. Does anyone have sage advice on what I can do?

Mallard recently posted a pdf of the reinstall process. Have you searched?

How bout the dealer? I know its a pain but if you have all the parts then you would only pay for the labor.

Default Thanks for the answers

I did download the file from the TIS. It doesn't really cover the dismantling of the canvas roof itself. I am going to recover my headliner next week. I will probably be able to see more once I take out the headliner. I was just wondering if there was a secret short of removing the roof itself. To answer the "going to the dealer", not unless I absolutely have to. I use them only for alignments. I do all of my own work on both of my BMW's. My other one is much more complicated...its an 850.
