Default Non US Cal-Roof gears

I have 1 in maritime Canada. Not aware of any others in CAN. but they may be a handful. Did they ever reach R S Africa, or OZ ?

Somewhere in Germany are a few boxes of these gears, NOS, gathering dust.

I have a plastic one from the above link waiting for when it's necessary. I have a feeling that the brass version might tear apart the other gear.

I have a brass gear somewhere. It will mesh with the metal worm and direct drive gear...

The brass gear(s) I had before (and these look the same) replaced the pair of plastic gears with a single gear.

If I recall correctly, the plastic gears had some "give" to the pair that the single brass gear does not but a little caution when running the top to the limit was all that was necessary.

Default gear results?

Trusted-1 and BlackBMWs so did these gears work out? My Cali roof stopped and I can't determine if the gear is what is needed. The motor does spin. I would certainly get some of these as they are way cheaper than the whole cartridge provided I could even find one those.

The links show the brass gear as no longer available; though I can contact the seller and cross my fingers. The plastics ones seem to be for a different BMW model (Z3). Perhaps the same gear is used in both applications.

Again your thoughts. Time to get the roof closed. Thanks.

If the motor is spinning and the roof is not moving, it is likely the gears but you may have missed out if they are no longer available.

The same gears were also used on the VW Polo model not sure what years.

My buddy has a whole top for sale with the motor gear assembly but not sure if he will part the motor from the top.

You can try taking the geas apart and flip one over to get some more use but make sure the top is cleaned and lubricated so it moves freely.

Too much force is what causes the gears to fail in the first place. There is no built in limit switches in this model so you have to release the button as soon as the travel stops.

Thanks Trusted-1. I understand about your buddy possibly not wanting to sell the motor separately. I'm gonna dig into this and I'll let you know about contacting him. This has been a project I have had on the back burner for so long. Just been driving it recently again and really want it out more but not to worry about rain. Mine is stuck "open" (about 98-99% closed but no way to get it to latch down manually that final bit). As you can imagine it's quite noisy too at highway speeds.

I had luck "shimming" the motor with a thin washer, so a different part of the gear was connecting. Been working okay for 6 years.

@Trusted-1 - any chance that roof you speak of has a wind deflector they want to get rid of?
