Default Intermittent misfiring / juddering

Hi all,

My 1998 318ti has developed a problem of appearing not to be firing on one of its cylinders. It drives fine for a while, then starts to misfire or loose power from what feels like a cylinder not firing.

It wont go away unless I turn the engine off and then on again. When I restart the engine, the problem goes away for a while, then comes back as before. I have also noticed that if I ease the accelerator on gently, it wont misfire but if I accelerate any harder than softly, thats when it starts.

What really throws me is the fact that the problem goes away if I restart the engine but always comes back after s short while.

Any ideas anyone before I take it into BMW?? Thanks.

More than likely this is an ignition problem and usually they show signs exactly of your description. Check the wires and the plugs and look for broken or cracked parts of the wires.
