Default valve cover leak and no 2nd gear (auto) help please!

so i was just wondering because my valve cover started leaking 3 weeks ago and i been driving it in town not trying to push it because it only seem to leak when i go on the highway but anyways i was going to fix it this weekend and now i noticed that 1st gear skips to 3rd gear.. its automatic by the way so my question is did i mess something up or is just the oily spark plugs because the spark plugs were oily ? i just need to know because i only have cash to fix my valve cover right now im not sure what else it could be? help please

I wouldn't think in the spark plug wells would cause the transmission to skip gears. Valve cover is a fairly straightforward and cheap job. Transmission could be costly. I have no experience with automatics in this car, so I can't be of much help.

Will it manual shift with the gear selector or does it still skip second?

Oh yea oil on sparkplugs is a blown valve cover gasket so make sure you replace that ASAP.
