Okay guys, a few years ago I was shopping for my first car and came across a beautiful black 95 clubsport, which sparked my interest in ti's. The deal didn't go through, and I ended up going the honda route. Here we are a few years later, and I come across a red clubsport. It has 158,000 miles, and looks to be in great condition with alot of maintenance done. My big question is, should I consider trading the owner for my 2001 Acura 3.2CL w/ 170,000 miles? KBB tells me no, but my love of bimmers and the rarity of the clubsport tell me that this is a car that I can autocross now, and keep for the rest of my life. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. | | | 01-05-2011, 01:50 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | do it man. | | | 01-05-2011, 03:11 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Orange County, NY Posts: 1,067 | Is the Acura your daily driver? If so how much miles do you commute everyday? The ti's weakness is its low engine power at highway speeds. It's always at about 4k rpm by the time you hit 65 mph so fuel efficiency isn't that great if you are hitting the highway often. Don't let that rarity thing with the Clubsport motivate you too much. It has no more engine power than a standard 95 ti. The only thing it has going for it performance wise is the LSD. I'm sure you know all of these things but without the LSD, the Clubsport is just another 95 ti sport with a prettier exterior/interior. __________________ McLaren F1 - BMW M Power S70/2 | | | 01-05-2011, 03:33 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I'd go for it, seems like the seller's getting the short end of the bargain to me | | | 01-05-2011, 03:44 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: South Central, MN Posts: 1,065 | Who cares about fuel consumption. These are cool cars or this discussion wouldn't be happening. Go for it. There's nothing special about that Acura. __________________ | | | 01-05-2011, 03:50 AM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: St. Louis Posts: 5 | Quote: Originally Posted by Ji Money Is the Acura your daily driver? I drive between 8 to 30 miles a day, (school vs. work) and it's a good mix between city and highway. Fuel Economy is going to be better than the Acura, though. My biggest concern is performance, I know it handles wayyyy better than the Acura, but I am not sure how well I'll adjust from the 100 hp drop. | | | 01-05-2011, 05:28 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Gilbert Posts: 621 | i honestly dont think it will feel like that much of a drop, you have a couple hundred pounds on the CL. but yea rwd>fwd... someone had to say it. __________________ *IF ITS FAST AND CHEAP, ITS NOT RELIABLE* *IF ITS CHEAP AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT FAST* *IF ITS FAST AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT CHEAP* | | | 01-05-2011, 05:31 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | The ti MAKES you drive. If you want to get and respectable performance out of it. Your gonna have to really shift the gears and whine them all the way out. and fwd lol. You might have to sink some money into it when you get it to bring it up to daily driver standards (cooling system, suspension bushings, etc). __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 01-05-2011, 05:40 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri Ji is off a bit, 4k is over 80mph on the 5spd, 65 is around 3k. Yeah 4K in mine is 90-95 __________________ No more ti. | | | 01-05-2011, 07:25 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Orange County, NY Posts: 1,067 | Quote: Originally Posted by stldrummer Yes it's my daily driver. Front wheel drive cars have their own pros and cons as do rear wheel drive cars. They're just different. I do prefer the feel of a rear wheel drive but when the road gets slick, front wheel is better. Do you have a lot of snow in your area? Lots of hills? You should consider that. __________________ McLaren F1 - BMW M Power S70/2 | | | 01-05-2011, 07:26 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Orange County, NY Posts: 1,067 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri Ji is off a bit, 4k is over 80mph on the 5spd, 65 is around 3k. I have a 5 speed. __________________ McLaren F1 - BMW M Power S70/2 | | | 01-05-2011, 07:28 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Orange County, NY Posts: 1,067 | Quote: Originally Posted by Mr.Squeelerz Who cares about fuel consumption. I think if the car is going to be a daily driver then you have to consider everything. __________________ McLaren F1 - BMW M Power S70/2 | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | for trade or sale | dguzzardo22 | US and North America | 12 | 11-17-2008 03:56 AM | Trade TI for TI | spr318ti | Lounge | 8 | 04-24-2008 12:08 PM | TI for trade... | jflip2002 | US and North America | 7 | 09-15-2006 04:46 AM | Trade my MSP for a ti? | Rickman | I'm thinking about buying a ti. | 49 | 12-16-2005 11:43 PM | Want to trade? | IndianaTravis | US and North America | 0 | 09-28-2005 09:38 PM | |
