Although, they will usually make a point to differentiate themselves from the rest of the forum. It is pretty common to see a stupid comment by a regular Bfc member in the track section which will usually be followed by on of the regulars asking the other person if they posted in the wrong place. I've taken my car to plenty of driving events and most BMW enthusiasts think it is a cool little car. I get a lot of miata drivers that like my car. In fact, one of my first instructors races a spec miata but used to race a 318ti. He only switched to the Miata as there is more competition for those cars. Not to many people racing 4 cylinder BMWs here in the south. There are haters everywhere. Don't let the idiots on Bfc ruin your impression of the BMW enthusiast community as a whole. If I had to guess, the people doing the hating are not BMWCCA members. Join BMWCCA, and see how accepting of your car those guys are. | | | 10-02-2007, 06:11 PM | #17 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | Wow. I talked about replacing my Civic and mentioned the 318ti. I saw his sneer. But I didn't buy the car to please him; I bought it for myself. And when I showed it to him and talked about how well it drives, he completely changed his mid about it. I researched BMW garages in the area and noticed that all the dealerships get low marks and the small specialist shops get good reviews. So I'm not going to take mine to a dealer. I took mine to a place in Cupertino for the car's initial inspection. They treated me courteously and professionally. They happily took my money to do the maintenance it needed right away; they'll get some more in a month for a new clutch. I do not care what other BMW owners think. Some of them are total dumbasses. A BMW motorcycle rider got yelled at by some lady at a gas station. She was really pissed off that some motorcyclist would besmirch her car's good name by putting BMW stickers on his bike. He looked at her car, furrowed his brow, and said, "Hm. BMW makes cars? When did they start making cars? Must have been after the war sometime. They've been building motorcycles since 1923." Heh. I'm watching CNBC's program about BMW. The 2002ti is what saved the company. I consider the 318ti its successor. Small and sporting. Best of all, it fits in my very small driveway. | | | 08-16-2011, 06:29 PM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Southwest England Posts: 379 | I think the problem is there are a lot of assholes in the world, and assholes need to buy cool stuff so that they can rub it in other people's faces... and so they think that BMW is for THEM, and them only. They can't figure out why BMW would want to make a car that isn't beyond the reach of mere mortals. They can't understand why BMW would want to make a car that isn't so big it puts fear into the hearts of rural peasants working in the fields as it swooshes past in a cloud of kitten-blood. They can't understand why sometimes less is more. | | | 08-17-2011, 02:46 AM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | Quote: Originally Posted by vsonix They can't understand why BMW would want to make a car that isn't so big it puts fear into the hearts of rural peasants working in the fields as it swooshes past in a cloud of kitten-blood. | That is one of the funniest thing's I've ever read. Well played, sir! The rest of your comments were right on as well. It's never been clear to me why some people are so concerned with making sure that others know how cool they think themselves to be. Sadly, many of those folks tend to be attracted to BMWs. I generally don't concern myself with the opinions of folks like that and I would suggest that the OP take the same approach. Those folks aren't worth your time. Besides, most of them bought their BMWs for the wrong reason, i.e., to show off, not to enjoy like many of us do. Enjoy your car and let the haters hate. | | | 08-17-2011, 03:02 AM | #30 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | Quote: Originally Posted by vsonix I think the problem is there are a lot of assholes in the world, and assholes need to buy cool stuff so that they can rub it in other people's faces... and so they think that BMW is for THEM, and them only.
