Default Head Unit Installation

Hey guys, I am having some trouble with installing a different head unit. I have a 96 318ti, and it already has an aftermarket head unit, but I have a nicer one I would like to install. Where I am running into trouble is pulling the top section of the plastic surrounding the clock, head unit, and air controls. I can see where the previous owner cracked and glues it. I attempted to just remove the head unit without removing the surrounding plastic, but it feels like it is in there pretty good! Any help would be great! Thanks again!

yeah, i think you can buy them at walmart, they're long plastic pieces that have a "u" shape at the end.
