One is a 1999 528i and the other is a 2001 325i 160k miles. the 528 has alot more miles than I am comfortable with 200k miles. And I'm unable to find the model of the motor on the 325i. Would that be a m54 motor in the 2001 325i? Which motor would be more desirable and or worth it to fix up and do the swap I'll have all the gaskets replaced along with all of the cooling components on either motor. My apologies for being so vague. The swap is going to be just for daily driving. Nothing crazy, I just need more power in order to travel up and down an aggressive mountain pass. Thank you in advance for any help. | | | 05-04-2015, 02:48 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Both cars probably have the wrong motor for a straightforward swap. 99 is the year for the switch from M52 to M54 for e39's and all E46's. Could a M54 be swapped into a ti? Yes, but it's not really worth the cost and hassle. Look for a 96-98 328i M52, or 98-99 323i. Stick with e36's __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion.
