Prior to (Very very little) overheating and parking, it ran just fine. Backstory: So i had to replace a few hoses in the back of my engine (Good placement, BMW) which required me to take off the entire intake. (Again, fantastic placement..) After finally getting everything put back together and getting all the wire harnesses in place, I am not getting any power to fuel pump or starter. but i cannot find the issue. The only solution i've been given, (Which sounds like total bull) is that it's because i currently have no water in the radiator. I need some help figuring out this problem. any help is awesome! __________________ 1998 318ti sport M3Swap 1996 318ti Base Sold. 1995 318ti 328 swap Sold. 1998 318ti sport base Sold. 1997 318ti Base | | | 07-06-2014, 03:59 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | Did you even figure out the problem? I'm not sure which posts to arc on the starter to see if it will spin. I've checked all my wiring too and I'm getting nothing. __________________ 2000 M5 -> 1996 318ti -> 1997 328i Instagram: ndrewchow YouTube: MINIzguy | | | 07-06-2014, 05:30 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jan 2014 Location: Raleigh, NC Posts: 44 | Quote: Originally Posted by MINIz guy Did you even figure out the problem? The top two were power and ground, the bottom one is clutch if I remember right. Make sure the wires are all in the right place and secured down properly. I saw a post on another forum where the clutch wire wasn't hooked up and it gave the same issue I had. __________________ 1998 318ti sport M3Swap 1996 318ti Base Sold. 1995 318ti 328 swap Sold. 1998 318ti sport base Sold. 1997 318ti Base | | | 07-06-2014, 06:16 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | __________________ 2000 M5 -> 1996 318ti -> 1997 328i Instagram: ndrewchow YouTube: MINIzguy Last edited by MINIz guy; 07-06-2014 at 07:44 PM. | | | 07-06-2014, 09:48 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Jan 2014 Location: Raleigh, NC Posts: 44 | I narrowed it down to it, then did a bypass and it worked. EWS bypass is a last resort, though. i did my bypass and then had the ECM and EWS reflashed at the dealer for a couple hundred. i'd check your wiring again, wiring makes everything a pain, especially with the squid __________________ 1998 318ti sport M3Swap 1996 318ti Base Sold. 1995 318ti 328 swap Sold. 1998 318ti sport base Sold. 1997 318ti Base | | | 07-07-2014, 02:07 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | So the items going from the squid are: DISA ICV Oil press. Coolant temp. Camshaft position sensor Crankshaft position sensor Alternator Starter I believe I have all of them connected correctly. I redid my starter wires too and they are all in their proper poles. Should I now start looking at an EWS bypass? __________________ 2000 M5 -> 1996 318ti -> 1997 328i Instagram: ndrewchow YouTube: MINIzguy | | | 07-07-2014, 02:27 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Jan 2014 Location: Raleigh, NC Posts: 44 | What sort of response are you getting from your car when you try to start it up? __________________ 1998 318ti sport M3Swap 1996 318ti Base Sold. 1995 318ti 328 swap Sold. 1998 318ti sport base Sold. 1997 318ti Base | | | 07-07-2014, 03:01 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | Nada. BMW can check it for you for a couple hundred, and another couple hundred for a reflash. these things get expensive. with that said, you can run on an EWS bypass, not the best idea, but you can. The only EWS bypass I run are on my swaps. Wiring is usually the issue in these cases, but if your luck is as bad as mine, you may be in the same position as I am. Since you can pull up your information with your EWS, you may be able to catch a bmw tech, around here or bimmerfest (hell, even reddit) that can do a better job than me at translating it. I work with my hands, not the computers. S'pose i'm doomed for future cars. Best of luck, man! __________________ 1998 318ti sport M3Swap 1996 318ti Base Sold. 1995 318ti 328 swap Sold. 1998 318ti sport base Sold. 1997 318ti Base | | | 07-09-2014, 02:46 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | I'd like to update. I've been working with John on the forum and he's been great help. Maybe some of you guys know something about this too. This is why I don't think my key is at issue: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...707_212746.jpg I also tested pole #2 to ground and #4 to ground. I get 0v with no key, key in position 2, and key in start position. What can I conclude from this? Also, how do I bypass my EWS2? I have a 1/96 build car so it is early EWS2. __________________ 2000 M5 -> 1996 318ti -> 1997 328i Instagram: ndrewchow YouTube: MINIzguy | | | 07-09-2014, 08:31 AM | #11 | Member Join Date: Jan 2014 Location: Raleigh, NC Posts: 44 | Quote: Originally Posted by MINIz guy | well, it does say it's communicating well. These wires are HOT, take proper precautions when connecting and securing. I would do some research on it before following that. Because it's been a good long while since i did my bypass. __________________ 1998 318ti sport M3Swap 1996 318ti Base Sold. 1995 318ti 328 swap Sold. 1998 318ti sport base Sold. 1997 318ti Base | | | 07-09-2014, 02:41 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | I've done that unlock test to and my key works for it. Do you know if the bypass works for a 1/96 build car? The bimmerforums guys tell me that I can't bypass anything since it's a 96. __________________ 2000 M5 -> 1996 318ti -> 1997 328i Instagram: ndrewchow YouTube: MINIzguy | | | 07-09-2014, 06:17 PM | #13 | Member Join Date: Jan 2014 Location: Raleigh, NC Posts: 44 | Quote: Originally Posted by MINIz guy I've done that unlock test to and my key works for it. The last one I did it on was a 11/97 i'm not fully versed in the ews systems. But mine is an ews2 and the bypass worked fine __________________ 1998 318ti sport M3Swap 1996 318ti Base Sold. 1995 318ti 328 swap Sold. 1998 318ti sport base Sold. 1997 318ti Base | | | 07-09-2014, 06:18 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013 Location: NJ Posts: 373 | Then I'm goin to bypass.
